Chapter 14 - The Ground Zero AmbushVictor expected me to panic. He expected me to show up at his glittering corporate boardroom, weeping and begging for a financial extension. He severely underestimated the architect I had become.

I didn't send my lawyers. I brought an execution squad.
Armed with my proprietary 3D structural mapping, the original geological core samples, and Carter’s elite private investigators, we bypassed the local authorities entirely. We drove straight to the luxury golf club where Victor Sterling was having lunch with the city's zoning commissioner.
I marched onto the pristine green of the eighteenth hole wearing my trench coat and stiletto boots, flanked by Carter and two heavily armed private security contractors.
Victor was holding a putter, laughing with the commissioner. When he saw me, his smug smile faltered.
"Lauren? What is the meaning of this?" Victor demanded, trying to maintain his aristocratic composure. "You are trespassing on private property."
"I don't trespass, Victor. I conquer," I said, my voice echoing with crystal-clear authority across the manicured lawn. I threw a thick, red-tabbed dossier directly onto the grass at his feet.
"What is this garbage?" Victor hissed.
"That is the unredacted offshore banking ledger Carter’s investigators just pulled from your personal Cayman accounts," I announced, delivering the fatal blow. "It shows a wire transfer of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars made exactly twelve hours ago to the city inspector who just shut down my site."
The zoning commissioner’s face drained of every drop of color. He physically stepped away from Victor.
"You forged those documents!" Victor yelled, his face turning a violent shade of purple.
"I also brought my structural analysis," I continued smoothly, ignoring his panic. "The foundation type you claimed was unstable? I had it verified this morning by the head of civil engineering at MIT and the federal coastal commission. The math is flawless. You didn't shut down my site because of safety, Victor. You committed corporate extortion and bribed a public official to force a default on a billion-dollar loan."
Victor staggered backward, dropping his golf club. He realized, in a single, horrifying microsecond, that he had picked a fight with a woman who specialized in tearing things down.

"My team forwarded those ledgers to the FBI, the SEC, and the Federal Banking Authority ten minutes ago," Carter rumbled, stepping forward, radiating pure, unadulterated menace.
"You are going to call your bought inspector right now," I whispered, stepping entirely into Victor's personal space. "You are going to lift the stop-work order. And then you are going to authorize the immediate release of the next phase of our loan. If you don't, you won't just lose your job at the syndicate. You will spend the next twenty years in a federal penitentiary."
