Grant’s primary source of arrogance was his position as the Vice President of Acquisitions at a massive commercial real estate firm. He believed his title made him untouchable.
On Wednesday morning, while Grant was frantically trying to hire a defense attorney he could no longer afford—because I had legally frozen our joint marital assets pending the divorce discovery—a courier delivered a thick, black binder directly to the CEO and the board of directors at his firm.
The binder contained pristine, irrefutable proof of federal wire fraud.
Grant hadn't just bought Tessa a diamond bracelet and a luxury apartment using his own salary. He had been skimming hundreds of thousands of dollars from the firm’s executive expansion fund. He had created dummy vendor invoices and routed the corporate capital directly into Tessa’s accounts to fund their lavish affair.

The fallout was spectacular and immediate. The board didn't just fire him; they called the authorities. Grant was escorted out of his office building in handcuffs by the FBI for corporate embezzlement before lunchtime.
Tessa, realizing she had attached herself to a bankrupt felon rather than a wealthy executive, didn't even pack. She abandoned the apartment, blocked his number, and fled the state by nightfall to avoid being charged as an accessory to the fraud.
