Chapter 13 - The Avalanche of LiesYou do not build an empire without casting a shadow, and our shadow had attracted a monster with infinite capital.

Forty-eight hours later, disaster struck. I was in the home office, reviewing the final concrete supply chain logistics, when Jack burst through the door. His face was thunderous, his eyes burning with an apocalyptic rage.

"A county inspector just arrived on site," Jack growled, slamming his hard hat onto the desk. "He’s backed by a dozen local sheriff's deputies. They just issued a catastrophic stop-work order."

The air completely evacuated my lungs. "On what grounds?!"

"He’s claiming the geological core samples were falsified. He says the foundation trenches are non-compliant with federal environmental laws and structurally compromised. They chained the gates, Harper. The cement trucks are literally sitting on the highway, and the concrete is going to cure inside the drums if we don't pour within four hours!"

If the trucks didn't pour, the foundation would be ruined. If the foundation was ruined, we missed the deadline. If we missed the deadline, the phased loan disbursement would freeze, and Silas Croft would legally seize our company, our home, and our entire life's work.

"Do not let those trucks leave!" I commanded, slamming my laptop shut.

"Harper, we can't fight armed deputies on a dirt road," Jack warned, though his fists were clenched so tightly his knuckles were white. "I’m calling our lawyers. We have to file for an emergency federal injunction."

"No," I stopped him, grabbing my heavy coat. The accommodating, terrified girl who used to hide in a Nashville mansion was dead; the wartime CEO had arrived. "A federal injunction takes forty-eight hours. The concrete cures in four. Silas wants to play in the mud? Fine. Let’s go bury him."

Jack looked at me, a slow, predatory, completely devoted smile spreading across his handsome face. "What do you need?"

"I need the unredacted offshore banking ledger from Silas’s personal Cayman accounts," I said, my mind operating with surgical precision. "Call Liam. Have him use the remaining Hayes media hackers to tear through Silas's digital footprint. We aren't going to fight a corrupt inspector. We are going to execute the man holding his leash."
