Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Slaughter

The emergency board meeting of Blackwood Enterprises was called for 9:00 AM the following morning.
Margaret had worked frantically through the night, calling favors and cashing in political capital, attempting to orchestrate a vote of no confidence to strip Ethan of his CEO title before he could act against her. She sat at the head of the massive mahogany table in the glass-walled executive suite, looking entirely composed and arrogant, surrounded by the senior board members she believed she controlled.
Victoria Hayes and her father were also present, expecting to leverage the broken engagement to extort massive financial concessions from the Blackwood trust.
At exactly 9:01 AM, the heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open.
Ethan walked in, radiating a terrifying, absolute authority. But he did not walk in alone. I walked beside him, wearing a razor-sharp, tailored emerald-green suit, carrying a thick leather portfolio.
"What is this?" Margaret demanded, standing up, her composure cracking as she saw me. "Security! Remove this woman from the building immediately!"
"Security works for the CEO, Mother," Ethan stated coldly, walking directly to the head of the table. "And as of right now, you are sitting in my chair."
Margaret sneered. "Not for long. You have compromised the Hayes merger, destabilized the company's stock, and proved yourself entirely unfit to lead. The board is voting to remove you."
"The board cannot remove him, Mrs. Blackwood," I interrupted, stepping forward and dropping the heavy leather portfolio onto the center of the mahogany table. The sound echoed like a gunshot.
"Who do you think you are to speak in this room?" Victoria’s father barked.
"I am Sarah Linfield," I announced, projecting my voice with lethal precision. "And I am the executor of the digital forensic audit that is about to send Margaret Blackwood to federal prison."
Margaret’s face turned the color of wet ash. "You are bluffing."
"I don't bluff," I smiled, a cold, merciless expression. "Last night, Ethan granted me unrestricted access to the Blackwood private servers. It took me less than four hours to trace the digital footprint of the security firm you hired to spoof my email account two years ago. But what I found was far more interesting than a forged breakup letter."
I opened the portfolio, sliding authenticated, time-stamped financial documents across the glass table to the bewildered board members.
"Margaret paid the security firm three million dollars to execute the forgery and wiretap my phones," I explained smoothly. "But she didn't use her personal accounts. She embezzled the funds directly from the Blackwood employee pension fund, disguising the payouts as 'consulting fees' through a phantom LLC."
The boardroom erupted into absolute chaos. The board members, realizing they were looking at massive, undeniable corporate fraud, began shouting. Victoria and her father backed away from the table in sheer horror, instantly realizing the Blackwood matriarch was a sinking, toxic ship.
"It’s a lie!" Margaret shrieked, her pristine, aristocratic facade violently shattering into panicked hysteria. "She manipulated the data! Ethan, do not let this tramp destroy our family!"

"She is my family, Mother," Ethan roared, his voice silencing the entire room. He stared at the woman who had birthed him with unadulterated disgust. "You stole two years of my son's life. You committed federal fraud to protect your own elitist ego. And as of ten minutes ago, the FBI was forwarded this exact dossier."
Right on cue, the private executive elevators chimed. Four federal agents in dark windbreakers stepped onto the floor, marching directly into the boardroom with their badges raised.
