Chapter 3 - The Apex Predator

At 2:00 AM, I stood shivering in the lavish marble lobby of the Thorne Enterprises tower. The security guards tried to turn me away, but the moment I showed them the seal on my father's envelope, their expressions changed.
Ten minutes later, the elevator doors opened into a sprawling, glass-walled penthouse overlooking the glittering city.
Silas Thorne was waiting for me.
He was incredibly imposing—tall, dressed in a sharp black shirt with the sleeves rolled up, his dark eyes radiating absolute, terrifying authority. He took the wet envelope from my shaking hands, motioning for his staff to bring me a blanket and hot tea.
He read the documents in silence. Then, he looked at me.
"Your husband," Silas said, his voice a low, dangerous rumble that made the air in the room feel heavy, "is a fool. This deed transfers the property into a blind trust upon your father's death. You don't just own a house, Elena. You own the land beneath my flagship casinos."
My breath hitched. "Daniel doesn't know that. He just wants the house. He... he’s been drugging me. He and his sister are going to have me committed tomorrow morning if I don't sign my rights away."
Silas’s jaw tightened. The billionaire businessman vanished, instantly replaced by a lethal predator who recognized a threat to something that belonged to him.
"I owed your father everything," Silas murmured, stepping closer until his sheer presence grounded my panic. He gently tilted my chin up, his thumb brushing a stray, wet curl from my face. "Which means, as of tonight, I owe you. Daniel made a critical miscalculation when he decided to play God with your life."

"What do I do?" I whispered.
Silas’s eyes flashed with a dark, wicked promise. "You are going to go home. And you are going to let me introduce myself to your husband."
