Chapter 14 - The Summit TakedownThe Moscone Center in San Francisco was an absolute madhouse of tech billionaires, international journalists, and venture capitalists. The Global Cyber Security Summit was the most anticipated event of the year, and Marcus Thorne was its undisputed king.

I didn't sneak in through the back door. I walked straight through the main entrance, wearing a stark, powerful white pantsuit that commanded the attention of everyone in the lobby. Julian walked beside me, an imposing, impenetrable fortress in a dark suit, scanning the crowd with hawk-like precision.
We took our seats in the very front row of the massive main auditorium.
The lights dimmed, and the pulsing, dramatic introduction music echoed through the sound system. Marcus Thorne strode onto the stage, wearing a sleek black turtleneck and a smug, untouchable smile. He looked exactly like the kind of man who believed he owned the world.
He began his presentation, pacing the stage, speaking eloquently about the rising threats of deepfakes and AI manipulation. Behind him, massive eighty-foot digital screens displayed sleek, professional graphics of his new company, Aegis Shield.
“We live in an era where you cannot trust your own ears,” Marcus boomed into his headset microphone, playing the crowd perfectly. “Just this week, a prominent digital consulting firm, run by a woman named Elena Mercer, was caught using synthetic audio to extort her own billionaire clients.”
A collective gasp rippled through the audience. Cameras flashed violently. Marcus was doing exactly what I predicted—using my fabricated downfall to elevate his own empire.
He looked down at the front row, his eyes locking onto mine. For a fraction of a second, his smug smile faltered in sheer shock that I was actually sitting there. But his arrogance quickly overrode his common sense.
“Ms. Mercer is currently facing federal indictment,” Marcus sneered, addressing me directly in front of three thousand people. “Her tragic descent into cyber-crime is exactly why you need Aegis Shield. We are the only firm capable of—”
I didn't wait for him to finish. I calmly reached into my designer handbag, pulled out my phone, and typed a single word to Tới and Giang: Execute.
Instantly, the massive, eighty-foot screens behind Marcus violently glitched. The sleek Aegis Shield logo dissolved into static.
The auditorium’s sound system let out a piercing screech, silencing Marcus’s microphone.
Then, a new audio file began to play over the stadium speakers. It wasn't my voice. It was Marcus’s real, unfiltered voice, recorded directly from his private servers.
“Set the vocal parameters to match Elena Mercer,” Marcus’s recorded voice echoed thunderously through the hall. “Generate the script: 'Arthur, if you don't wire five million to the Cayman trust by midnight, I’m leaking the acquisition documents.' Render it. Make sure the breathing sounds authentic. We are going to bankrupt this bitch and steal her entire client list by Friday.”
The entire auditorium erupted into absolute, chaotic pandemonium.
Tech moguls leaped out of their seats. Journalists frantically began recording the screens, which were now displaying the raw, undeniable IP logs and cryptocurrency receipts tying Marcus directly to the illegal botnets and the AI rendering engines.
Marcus staggered backward, his face drained of all color, looking like he had just seen a ghost. He frantically tapped his headset. “Cut the feed! Cut the screens! Security, get her out of here!”
But my offshore architects had completely locked him out of his own system. The audio continued to play on a loop, broadcasting his undeniable guilt to the entire world.
“You wanted a public execution, Marcus,” I said, standing up from my front-row seat, my voice carrying clearly over the chaos. “You just forgot to check who was standing at the guillotine.”
“FBI! Nobody move!”
The command shattered the remaining illusion of Marcus’s power. Dozens of heavily armed federal agents from the Cyber Crimes Division stormed the stage from the wings. They had been waiting in the shadows, briefed by Julian hours before the event, armed with the decrypted server data Tới and Giang had extracted.
Marcus didn't even try to run. He fell to his knees as the agents swarmed him, violently pulling his arms behind his back to snap heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists. He looked out at the thousands of peers who were now staring at him with absolute disgust. His company, his reputation, and his freedom evaporated in a matter of seconds.
Julian stepped up beside me, wrapping a strong, protective arm around my waist. He looked at the ruined billionaire being dragged off the stage, and then looked down at me with a profound, overwhelming reverence.

“You are terrifying, Mrs. Mercer,” Julian murmured, a proud, thrilling smile touching his lips.
“I told him I didn't beg,” I smiled back, leaning into his solid embrace. “Let’s go home.”
