Chapter 3 - The Hallway Execution

The heavy double doors of the maternity ward swung open, and three massive, armed hospital security guards marched down the hallway.

"Sir, ma'am," the head of security said, his hand resting casually on his utility belt. "You need to vacate this floor immediately. You are in violation of a standing court order."

"Don't touch me!" Sienna shrieked, backing away in sheer, unadulterated panic, her white cashmere coat catching on a medical cart. The elegant, untouchable mistress was suddenly exposed in front of a dozen staring nurses and patients, realizing she was tethered to a sinking ship. "Graham, do something! Call someone!"

Graham ignored her. He was staring at me, his chest heaving, his eyes wide with a frantic, desperate realization.

"You hacked my accounts," he breathed, the pieces finally snapping together in his mind. "The foundation... the trust..."

"The trust is entirely frozen, Graham," I said softly, gripping the arms of my wheelchair. Every stitch in my abdomen screamed in agony, but my spine was made of titanium. "The federal authorities were notified of the embezzlement seventy-two hours ago. The Cayman accounts were seized at dawn. You don't have a foundation. You don't have my money. You have absolutely nothing."

Sienna whipped her head toward him, her face draining of color. "What is she talking about, Graham? What do you mean the accounts are seized?!"

"Shut up, Sienna!" Graham roared, entirely losing his grip on his polished persona. He lunged toward my wheelchair, his face twisted in pure, unfiltered rage.

He didn't make it two steps.

The security guards instantly tackled him, slamming the charismatic, arrogant executive face-first against the sterile linoleum floor. The sickening thud echoed through the ward. Graham screamed in pain and outrage as they pinned his arms behind his back, effectively neutralizing the threat he posed to me and my son.

"Graham Ellery," a new voice boomed from the end of the hallway. Two uniformed police officers walked through the double doors, holding a pair of heavy steel handcuffs. "You are under arrest for violation of a protective order, and we have a federal warrant for massive wire fraud and corporate embezzlement. Put your hands behind your back."
