Chapter 1 - The Ghost in Maine

Alistair couldn’t move.

He looked at the boy.

Four years old.

Pale gray eyes.

His eyes.

Cecilia stepped in front of the child immediately.

A protective instinct so fierce it made Alistair take a step back.

“Leo,” she said, her voice shaking but fighting to remain calm. “Go into the back room with Mrs. Harlow.”

“But Mom—”

“Now, Leo.”

The boy obeyed, disappearing behind a heavy wooden door.

The bell above the shop door swung slightly, cutting through the suffocating silence.

Alistair finally found his voice.

“He’s mine.”

“He’s mine,” she corrected coldly. “You don’t exist in his world.”
