Chapter 3 - Delivering Justice

Once the police dragged Ryan and Dr. Vance out of the maternity ward in handcuffs, the hospital administration went into absolute overdrive. The Chief of Medicine personally rushed into my suite, apologizing profusely, pale with the terror of a massive impending lawsuit. He brought in the head of obstetrics, a brilliant and fiercely protective female doctor named Dr. Aris, to take over my care.

I was immediately moved to a secure, newly sterilized surgical suite on a different floor. Michael never left my side, holding my hand while Dr. Aris safely guided me through the C-section.

At 8:42 AM, the room filled with the sharp, beautiful cry of a newborn.

"You have a perfectly healthy, beautiful baby girl, Emily," Dr. Aris smiled, bringing my daughter over to me.

I burst into tears, pressing my lips to her warm, tiny forehead. She was safe. We had survived. I named her Maya, and as I held her against my chest, the terrifying shadows of the night before were entirely banished by the fierce, absolute love I felt for my child.

But while I was in the recovery room experiencing the greatest joy of my life, Vanessa was experiencing her own personal apocalypse across town.

Vanessa had woken up in her luxury downtown apartment—an apartment I unknowingly subsidized through Ryan's salary—expecting a phone call that I had tragically passed away. She was likely picking out her mourning clothes, preparing to play the role of the comforting friend who would eventually step in to heal the grieving widower.

Instead, at 9:00 AM, her door was kicked open by the Chicago Police Department executing a search warrant.

They tore through the apartment, seizing Ryan's laptop, financial documents, and her personal devices to determine how much she knew about the murder plot. They dragged her out of the building in her silk pajamas, right in front of her wealthy neighbors.

While she was sitting in an interrogation room screaming for a lawyer, I was in my hospital bed executing a financial slaughter. With a few phone calls to my wealth management team and my corporate firm, I froze every single joint asset Ryan and I shared. I removed his name from the deed to our house, legally locking him out of the estate.

But I didn't stop there. I called the senior partners at the architectural firm where Ryan and Vanessa worked. I sent them the audio recording. By noon, both Ryan and Vanessa were officially terminated for gross moral turpitude, losing their careers, their health insurance, and their reputations in a single stroke.

They wanted my twelve million dollars. Instead, they were left with absolutely nothing.
