Chapter 2 - Mutiny in International Waters

Mega-yachts are designed with two separate ecosystems: the luxurious, sprawling spaces for the owners, and the hidden, utilitarian corridors for the staff, allowing them to move invisibly through the ship. I slipped out of the powder room and pressed a concealed panel in the wall molding, a feature the yacht's designer had shown me during the handover. The door popped open, revealing a narrow, steel-lined passageway.

My head was still spinning, but the adrenaline acted as a powerful counter-agent to whatever sedatives lingered in my blood. I navigated the labyrinth of crew corridors, climbing a steep spiral staircase that bypassed the upper deck lounges where my would-be murderers were drinking vintage champagne. I emerged directly behind the bridge.

Captain Vance was standing at the helm, studying the radar screens as the barometer dropped and the midnight squall approached. When he turned and saw me, his weathered face etched with immediate concern. I was pale, trembling, and barefoot.

"Mrs. Sterling-Hayes?" he asked, rushing forward. "Are you alright? Your husband said you were confined to quarters with severe seasickness."

"Lock the bridge doors, Vance," I ordered, my voice raspy but iron-clad. "And turn off any internal audio monitoring to this room."

He didn't ask questions. He pressed a sequence of buttons on the console, and the heavy electronic locks engaged. I collapsed into the leather navigator’s chair and told him everything. I told him about the pills, the forged power of attorney, the plot to push me overboard, and the hitmen waiting for my parents in the mountains. As I spoke, Vance’s posture transformed from a polite captain to a hardened military veteran. His jaw clenched so tightly the muscles jumped beneath his skin.

"We need to turn the ship around. I'll lock them in the brig and call the Coast Guard immediately," Vance growled, reaching for the radio.

"No," I stopped him, grabbing his wrist. "If we arrest them now, it’s my word against theirs. Flynn will claim I was hallucinating from the seasickness medication. He’ll play the victim. And worse, if we spook him, he might find a way to signal his men back home to move up the hit on my parents. We need to secure my family first, and then we need him to confess on tape."

Vance nodded slowly, understanding the tactical necessity. He opened a secure, encrypted satellite channel. I dialed the direct line to Marcus, my father’s Head of Global Security. When Marcus answered, I didn't waste time with pleasantries. I initiated a "Code Black," a protocol my father and I had established for kidnapping or extortion. Within three minutes, a heavily armed extraction team was dispatched to my parents' mountain lodge to neutralize Flynn’s hired guns. My family was safe.

Now, it was time to deal with the rats on my ship. Vance and I laid out a trap so perfectly engineered it would make my father proud. We synced the hidden security cameras on the aft deck to a private server and disabled the safety rail sensors. I was going to give Flynn exactly the opportunity he wanted.
