Chapter 6 - The Digital Ambush

My personal life was equally magnificent. Mark and I had transitioned from cautious dating into a profound, unbreakable partnership. Together, we were building our absolute dream home in the upscale suburbs—a stunning, custom two-story estate distinguished by its elegant, sweeping Japanese-style mái nhật roof. The architectural design was meant to provide a deep sense of grounding, a physical fortress to protect my twins, Liam and Lily, from the chaos of my past.
It was a crisp Tuesday morning, and I was sitting at the kitchen table of our temporary rental, my laptop open. Mark was standing behind me, resting his chin on my shoulder as we looked at the 3D mockups for our future kitchen.
"I finally figured out the rendering software," I smiled, pointing at the screen. "I upgraded from Canva Edu to Canva Pro, and the premium asset libraries made a massive difference in visualizing the textures."
"It looks incredible, Claire," Mark murmured, kissing my cheek. "The dimensions are perfect. Exactly twelve square meters—4.3 meters by 2.8 meters."
"I don't want standard wood," I explained, my eyes tracing the sleek lines on the screen. "I evaluated the imported Thai MDF and the Picomat plastic boards, but they aren't durable enough for a house with growing twins. I want custom 304 stainless steel cabinets with tempered glass doors. It’s industrial, beautiful, and completely indestructible."
"Indestructible," Mark repeated softly, his dark eyes meeting mine. "Just like you."
I smiled, feeling a rush of profound peace. I closed the laptop, grabbed my designer coat, and headed into the city. Apex Media was expanding, and I was personally finalizing the nội quy lao động—the strict workplace rules required by the labor authorities to legally register our brand-new representative office.
But in the cutthroat world of digital empires, peace is just a blind spot waiting to be exploited.
I walked into my corner office, expecting to sign the compliance documents. Instead, my lead marketing director, Chloe, burst through my heavy oak doors. She didn't knock. Her face was the color of chalk, and her hands were trembling violently as she clutched her tablet.
"Claire, you need to look at this right now," Chloe gasped, struggling to catch her breath. "It’s a complete bloodbath. Our entire social media infrastructure is collapsing."
I stood up, my blood turning to ice. "What do you mean? Did the algorithm misflag one of our ad campaigns? Just submit an appeal."
"No, you don't understand," Chloe’s voice cracked. She placed the tablet on my desk. "It’s not an algorithmic glitch. It’s a targeted digital assassination."
I looked at the screen. The entire Meta Business Manager for Apex Media—our Facebook pages, our Instagram, our targeted ad accounts—were completely disabled. Staring back at me was a massive, terrifying red banner across the dashboard: Permanent Account Review Restriction.

There was no appeal button. There was no customer service chat. We had been entirely, irrevocably wiped off the platform. In the digital marketing industry, a permanent Meta lock was a death sentence.
"How does a permanent lock happen overnight?" I demanded, my mind racing through crisis protocols as I realized we were bleeding hundreds of thousands of dollars by the minute.
