Chapter 3 - The Leverage

For months, I had let him think I was terrified. I let him think I was hiding in a Brooklyn townhouse, paying in cash, scraping by on thrift store furniture, running from his wrath.
I wasn't hiding. I was working.
"What did you do?" Luca demanded, his voice suddenly stripped of its terrifying calm. He took half a step forward, but the four men behind me instantly raised their weapons again, the muzzles pointed directly at his chest.
"I did what you taught me to do," I smiled. "I consolidated power. While you were busy parading Vanessa around at charity galas and consolidating your territory in Queens, I was quietly rerouting every single shell company in the Moretti empire through the Bennett trusts. The ones only I have the biometric keys to."

Vanessa let out a small, breathless gasp. She looked at Luca, panic bleeding into her perfectly manicured features. "Luca... my father's investments. They were in those accounts."
"They were," I corrected cheerfully. "Past tense, Vanessa."
