Chapter 5 - The Delivery

I turned away from them, dismissing their existence entirely.

I looked at the boutique manager, who was standing frozen behind the cash wrap, her face completely pale.

"The pale oak crib in the back," I told her, pulling a sleek, black titanium card from my coat pocket and placing it on the glass counter. "And the cashmere blankets. I'll take all of them. Have them delivered to the Bennett estate in Connecticut by this evening."

"Y-yes, Miss Bennett," the manager stammered, scrambling to take the card.

I turned back to look at Luca one last time. He was standing exactly where I had left him, his empire in ashes, his mistress weeping behind him, completely powerless.

"You wanted to know about the baby," I said, resting my hand on my stomach one last time. "She's mine. And she will never, ever know your name."

I didn't wait for the glass doors to slide open. The security detail parted for me, clearing my path out onto Madison Avenue, leaving the most feared man in New York to suffocate in the ruins of the life I had just destroyed.
