Chapter 14 - The Vows We KeepWe didn't wait for June.

Two days after the gala, with the threat permanently eradicated and Dante Romano’s last failsafe destroyed, we stood in the private, sunlit garden of our Brooklyn brownstone.

It was a small, fiercely intimate ceremony. Elena stood beside me, crying happy tears. Adriana Vale was there. Even Agent Miller attended, standing respectfully in the back. Nico, wearing a tiny, perfectly tailored tuxedo, stood proudly holding a velvet ring box.

I wore a simple, elegant silk slip dress that draped beautifully over my pregnant stomach. I didn't need a grand cathedral. I didn't need a thousand guests to witness my happiness.

I only needed the man standing at the end of the flower-strewn aisle.

Lucian watched me walk toward him, his dark eyes shining with unshed tears. The ruthless billionaire, the feared syndicate boss, the man who had once believed he was unworthy of salvation, looked completely and utterly at peace.

When I reached him, he took both of my hands in his. His grip was warm, strong, and deeply anchoring.

The officiant spoke the traditional words, but when it was time for our vows, Lucian did not read from a piece of paper. He looked directly into my eyes, speaking from the absolute depths of his soul.

“Four years ago, I left you alone in a hospital room because I believed power was more important than presence,” Lucian said, his voice thick with raw, unfiltered emotion. “I nearly lost everything that made my life worth living. You didn't just forgive me, Serena. You forced me to evolve. You taught me that a real man does not demand fear to be respected. He demands truth.”

He reached out, his thumb gently brushing a tear from my cheek.

“You are my sanctuary,” Lucian whispered. “You are the mother of my children, the architect of my redemption, and the undisputed queen of my world. I vow to stand beside you, in the light, for the rest of my days. I will never miss another moment.”

I let out a wet, breathless laugh, my heart overflowing with a love so massive it felt like it could power the entire city.

“You spent your life building an empire of shadows,” I said softly, looking up at the man who had completely surrendered his heart to me. “But you were brave enough to tear it all down just to see me smile. I choose you, Lucian. Not because you are powerful, but because you are good. I love you, completely and forever.”

Nico stepped forward, proudly holding up the velvet box. Lucian took the simple, elegant platinum band and slid it onto my finger. It wasn't a claim of ownership. It was a promise of absolute equality.

“I pronounce you husband and wife,” the officiant smiled.

Lucian didn't wait for another word. He pulled me into his arms, kissing me with a fierce, passionate devotion that sealed our past and ignited our future. The small crowd erupted into applause, and Nico cheered loudly, wrapping his little arms around our legs.

As we stood together in the garden, bathed in the warm spring sunlight, I knew that the wars were finally over. We had fought the monsters, we had faced the ghosts, and we had won.
