Chapter 5 - The Cuffs and the Healing"You ruined everything," Evelyn sobbed into her hands, her carefully styled hair falling in messy strands across her face. "I was supposed to have control of this mansion."

"You never had control. You were just a pawn in your own disgusting greed," Victor said, turning his back on her in utter disgust.
He slowly walked over to me and knelt down on the hardwood floor. He didn't care about his expensive suit. He wrapped his strong, warm arms around my shoulders, pulling both me and the baby into a fierce, protective embrace. I rested my head against his chest, breathing in his familiar scent, letting out a deep, shuddering breath as six months of overwhelming fear and grief finally melted away into pure relief. Our baby reached up with a tiny hand, clutching Victor’s collar, recognizing his father.
"I’m so sorry I was gone for so long, Clara," Victor whispered into my hair, kissing my forehead repeatedly. "I promise you, on my life, nobody will ever touch you or our boy again."
"I knew you were alive," I cried softly, clinging to his jacket. "My heart never stopped believing you would come back to us."
"I fought my way back through hell just for you two. And now, we are going to clean up this mess once and for all."
"You think you’ve won?" Evelyn spat from the corner of the room, her voice dripping with venomous desperation. "I will sue you for every dime you have, Victor! I will drag this family name through the mud! I will fight this in court for years!"
Victor didn't even look at her. He just kept his arms wrapped tightly around me. "You won’t be fighting anything from inside a federal penitentiary, Evelyn."
"What are you talking about?" she demanded.
"Listen carefully," Victor said quietly.
The grand hall was silent for a moment. Then, cutting through the quiet afternoon air, came the faint but undeniable wail of police sirens. The sound grew louder with every passing second, echoing down the long, private driveway of the grand estate. Evelyn froze. Her face went completely blank with shock as she realized Victor hadn’t just returned to stop her—he had brought the full, unforgiving force of the law right to her front door.
"That is the state police, along with federal marshals," Victor announced, finally standing up and looking down at her. "They have a warrant for your immediate arrest."
"No… no! You can’t let them arrest me here! Think about the family reputation, Victor!" she screamed, scrambling to her feet in panic.
"You destroyed the family reputation the moment you dragged my son across this floor," Victor replied coldly.
The heavy iron doors at the main entrance swung wide open again. Four uniformed police officers, accompanied by two federal agents in sharp suits, marched into the marble foyer. Their heavy boots clicked against the polished hardwood floors as they immediately surrounded Evelyn. The lead agent pulled out a set of heavy steel handcuffs.
"Evelyn Vance, you are under arrest for corporate fraud, grand larceny, and attempted child endangerment," the officer stated, grabbing her arm.
"Get your hands off me! Do you know who I am? I am a CEO!" she shrieked, struggling violently.
"You have the right to remain silent," the officer continued, completely unfazed, forcefully pinning her arms behind her back and clicking the cold steel cuffs around her wrists.
"Clara, please! Tell them to stop! I’m your sister!" Evelyn begged, looking at me with wild, desperate eyes.
I stood up slowly, holding my baby safely in my arms. I looked at the pathetic, broken woman in handcuffs. "You were my sister when you walked through that door this morning, Evelyn. But the woman standing there now is a complete stranger to me. Goodbye."
Screaming and cursing our names, Evelyn was dragged out of the grand hall. Her loud protests slowly faded as they marched her down the stone steps and stuffed her into the back of a waiting police cruiser. The heavy iron front doors shut firmly behind them, restoring an absolute, serene quiet to our home.
Victor reached down and picked up the small white pearl earring from the floor. He gently placed it into my palm, wrapping my fingers around it warmly.
"It’s over now, darling. She will never trouble us again," he smiled.

Together, we walked up the grand staircase toward the nursery. The bright sun beamed through the stained-glass windows, filling the home with a sense of peace and warmth that had been missing for six agonizing months. We laid our sleeping baby into his wooden crib, tucking his blue blanket around his shoulders.
I rested my head against Victor’s shoulder as we looked out the window, watching the last police car disappear through the front gates. The nightmare was finally over. The empire was safe, but more importantly, our family was whole again. And as Victor pulled me close to kiss me, I knew that our new life, free from the toxic shadows of the past, was just beginning.
