Chapter 14: The Ring and the Vow

Evelyn stared at the ring, and then at the man holding it.
Tears—genuine, joyful tears—spilled over her eyelashes. She had spent a decade married to a man who made her feel small, who made her believe she was nothing more than an accessory to his greatness. Now, the most powerful, dangerous man in the city was kneeling before her, offering her the world and asking for nothing but her heart in return.
"Yes," Evelyn breathed, her voice cracking with pure emotion. "Yes, Julian. Absolutely yes."
Julian let out a breath he seemed to have been holding for a lifetime. He slid the heavy, breathtaking diamond onto her left ring finger. It fit perfectly, locking into place like the final keystone of an indestructible arch.
He stood up, pulling her into a fierce, consuming embrace. He kissed her with a desperate, passionate fire, lifting her slightly off the ground. It was a kiss that promised forever, a vow spoken in the language of devotion and power.
"My architect," Julian whispered against her lips. "My wife."
They celebrated late into the night, sitting on the balcony of the penthouse, drinking rare champagne and watching the lights of the city. The city belonged to them now. Every skyscraper, every port, every major development flowed through their hands.
"We need a new name for the holding company," Julian noted lazily, tracing the diamond on her finger as she rested against his chest.
"Vance-Whitmore Dynamics," Evelyn suggested.

"No," Julian smiled, kissing the top of her head. "Just Vance. Because by the time we sign the Dubai contracts, you'll be Evelyn Vance. And that name is going to make the entire global market tremble."
Evelyn looked out at the ocean, feeling a profound, beautiful peace settle over her soul. The storm had passed. The rubble was cleared.
