Chapter 10 - The Front Seat

One year later, Harbor Point opened.
Families moved into affordable apartments. Small businesses opened along the waterfront. Children ran through the public gardens Isabella had fought to preserve.
A bronze plaque stood near the entrance.
HARBOR POINT
Built on Vision, Restored Through Courage
Below it:
ISABELLA BROOKS COLE
Founder and CEO
At the opening ceremony, Isabella stood beside Ethan, Daniel, Robert, and hundreds of employees.
A black sedan waited nearby to take them to the celebration dinner.
Ethan walked around the car and opened the passenger door for Isabella.
She paused.
He smiled.
“What?” he asked.
She looked at the front seat.
Then at him.
Then at the city she had rebuilt around herself.
“Nothing,” she said.
She got in.
Ethan took the driver’s seat beside her.
As the car pulled away, Isabella looked through the windshield at the road stretching ahead.
No one had given her this place.
