Chapter 3: The Ultimate Ultimatum

Daniel stood up slowly, deliberately placing himself between his mother and his traumatized wife, keeping one protective hand firmly resting on Emily’s shoulder. The look in his dark eyes was completely devoid of any remaining love, respect, or familiarity. It was the absolute cold look of a stranger.
"She is not an outsider," Daniel said, his voice slicing through the heavy tension in the nursery like a freshly sharpened blade. "She is my wife. She is the mother of my child. And after what you just did today, you are the outsider now." He reached into the pocket of his jeans and pulled out his phone, holding it up so the screen illuminated his cold expression. "You have exactly five minutes to walk out of my house, get in your car, and leave this property."
Margaret gasped loudly, clutching her chest dramatically as if she had just taken a physical bullet to the heart. "You're throwing me out? Your own mother? You're banishing me from my grandson's life?"

"If you aren't out of my driveway in five minutes, I will call the police and press felony assault charges myself," Daniel warned, his thumb hovering dangerously over the emergency call button on the screen. "And if you ever, ever dare to come near Emily or my son again, I will make absolutely sure you spend your golden years sitting alone in a concrete jail cell."
Tears of absolute defeat and bitter realization streamed down Margaret’s wrinkled face. Finally understanding that her relentless cruelty had cost her the one person she truly loved, she turned and fled the nursery in humiliated silence.
