Chapter 14 - The Steel Guillotine

While I was silently dismantling their shadow empire in the digital realm, the Obsidian executives halfway across the world realized their firewalls were collapsing. Cornered apex predators do not retreat; they lash out with desperate physical violence.
It was 5:00 AM. The perimeter alarms of the Big Sur estate suddenly shrieked, a high-pitched wail that sliced right through the freezing coastal fog.
Through the internal security monitors, we watched six heavily armed mercenaries wearing tactical gear and night-vision goggles storm across the pristine cliffs, heading directly for the main house. They weren't local police. They were a private, elite extraction team hired by the Syndicate to physically seize my server keys and silence me before I could finalize the data leak.
"Lock the steel bulkheads," I commanded Thomas, my voice entirely devoid of fear.
I killed the main power breaker, plunging the entire sprawling glass-and-timber estate into pitch-black darkness. I stood my ground in the twelve-square-meter kitchen. The solid 304 stainless-steel cabinets provided flawless ballistic cover, and the tempered glass was completely shatter-proof. We had built a fortress that absolutely refused to break.
The mercenaries kicked through the heavy front doors, their laser sights cutting through the dark foyer. They moved with terrifying precision, sweeping the modern living room. They didn't realize they had just walked into a fatal funnel designed by a woman who anticipated every conceivable angle of attack.
As the first two mercenaries entered the kitchen archway, I used the reflection of the moonlight against the steel refrigerator to perfectly track their movements. I triggered the estate’s internal security countermeasures from my mobile device. Blinding, high-intensity strobe lights mounted in the ceiling violently flashed to life, accompanied by a deafening, high-frequency acoustic alarm.
The mercenaries dropped to their knees, clutching their ears, completely blinded and disoriented by the sensory overload.

Before they could recover or fire a single wild shot, Thomas moved like a shadow in the strobe lights. With terrifying, surgical precision, he neutralized the physical threat, zip-tying the unconscious mercenaries to the floor before they even knew what hit them. The physical threat to our sanctuary was permanently dismantled on the very floor we had built to protect us.
I stepped over the unconscious men and initiated a direct, encrypted video link to the localized IP address I had just unmasked.
