Chapter 6 - A Daughter Arrives Early

Jenna gave birth three weeks early.
Her daughter arrived before dawn during a spring thunderstorm.
She was small, fierce, and healthy enough to cry before the doctor even finished checking her.
Jenna held her against her chest and cried.
Not from fear.
From relief.
“What is her name?” Lena asked.
Jenna looked at Eleanor.
Then at the tiny face resting against her heart.
“Amelia,” she said.
Amelia Vale Caldwell.
Eleanor smiled through tears.
“Amelia means brave,” she whispered.
Ethan asked to see the baby.
Jenna agreed only after speaking with her attorney.
He came to the hospital with no cameras and no lawyers.
When he saw Amelia, his face broke.
“She’s beautiful,” he whispered.
Jenna looked at him.
“She deserves a father who tells the truth.”
“I want to be that father.”
“Then start by accepting what you did.”
Ethan nodded slowly.
For once, he did not argue.
But Jenna had learned that remorse was not redemption.
May you like
Redemption required action.
And Ethan still had a long way to go.
