Chapter 9 - The Love That Did Not Need Permission

Jenna met Noah Reed at a foundation meeting.

He was a family-law attorney who volunteered twice a week at the legal clinic. He did not know who she was at first, which made Jenna like him immediately.

He knew her only as Jenna.

The woman who stayed late to organize client files.

The mother who showed him photos of Amelia’s first steps.

The founder who made everyone else feel heard.

When he eventually learned the full story, he did not look impressed by her wealth.

He looked angry for what she had endured.

“I’m sorry,” Noah said.

Jenna smiled faintly.

“You don’t have to be sorry.”

“I know. But I am.”

Their relationship began slowly.

Coffee after meetings.

Walks with Amelia in the park.

Dinners that lasted too long because neither of them wanted to leave.

Noah never asked Jenna to become less successful, quieter, or easier.

He never treated her past as a competition.

He simply showed up.

And for Jenna, that became the most romantic thing in the world.
