Chapter 1 - The Spilled Secret

The sound of shattering glass and splashing milk echoed loudly down the pediatric wing.

Melinda stared at the white puddle spreading across the linoleum, her hands shaking so violently she couldn't even reach out to steady the stroller. The color had completely vanished from her face, leaving her looking like a ghost trapped in expensive designer clothing.

Connor frowned in irritation, completely missing the sheer panic radiating from his new wife. "Melinda, for God's sake, watch what you're doing," he snapped, taking a step away to ensure the milk didn't splash his Italian leather shoes.

He looked up just as Kenneth came to a halt beside me.

Kenneth Boyd was a corporate attorney with a reputation for merciless precision. He did not waste words, and he certainly did not make house calls to hospitals unless the paperwork he carried had the power to detonate someone's life.

"Dr. Sinclair," Kenneth said smoothly, handing me the thick, sealed manila folder. "The court order was signed ten minutes ago. The records have been fully authenticated."

"Thank you, Kenneth," I said, my voice perfectly level.

Connor looked between Kenneth, the folder, and my completely unbothered expression. His smug smile finally began to fracture. "What is this? Are you trying to sue me for more alimony, Kirsten? Because the divorce is finalized. You have nothing on me."

"I don't want your money, Connor," I said, tapping the folder gently against my tablet. "I just wanted my medical history back."
