Chapter 2 - Connor, please, let's just go. Please!

If one of the hospital's security cameras had captured that exact, defining fraction of a second—it would show the absolute destruction of a narcissist's reality. In the image, I am standing tall in my white lab coat, one hand casually in my pocket, radiating the calm, untouchable authority of a woman who has already won. Connor is caught mid-step, his jaw slack, staring at me in confusion and dawning horror. Melinda is frozen beside the stroller, terrified, looking at the broken bottle on the floor. And standing right behind them, fresh off the elevator, is Kenneth, looking sharp and professional, holding the legal documents that are about to burn Connor's entire world to ashes.

"Your medical history?" Connor scoffed, trying to regain his footing. "You're delusional. You're the one who was barren. I had nothing to do with it."

"Actually," Kenneth interrupted, his voice cutting through the air like a blade, "that is exactly the issue, Mr. Fleming. Because my client recently authorized a forensic audit of the private fertility clinic you both used during your marriage."

Melinda let out a short, hysterical sob. She grabbed Connor's arm. "Connor, please, let's just go. Please!"

"Shut up, Mel," Connor barked, shaking her off. He glared at me. "What audit? What are you talking about?"
