Chapter 7 - The Boardroom ExecutionFriday morning arrived with a crisp, piercing chill in the air.

At 8:55 A.M., the executive boardroom of Vanguard Holdings was a portrait of arrogant, corporate serenity. I watched the live security feed from a dark, soundproof observation room just down the hall. Claire stood beside me, holding a thick briefcase, while two heavily armed FBI financial crimes agents waited silently by the door.
On the monitors, Raymond stood at the head of the long mahogany table. Malcolm sat to his right, nervously tapping a pen. The rest of the board—mostly older men who had been bought or manipulated by my husband—chattered quietly.
"Gentlemen, thank you for coming," Raymond began, projecting his best CEO voice. "As you know, my wife has recently endured a horrific trauma. Her emotional state has severely compromised her ability to lead this company. Therefore, she has signed a full proxy authorization, granting me unilateral control over the Vanguard trust to ensure the company's stability during this difficult time."
He held up the document I had signed the night before. Malcolm pulled out his encrypted laptop to initiate the final, fatal wire transfers to R&G Enterprises.
"The transfers are initializing," Malcolm announced to the room.
"Perfect," Raymond smiled. "To a new era for Vanguard."
I didn't wait another second. I pushed the heavy observation room doors open and walked down the hallway. I was not wearing the soft, accommodating pastels Raymond preferred. I wore a tailored, stark-black McQueen suit. I looked like an executioner.
I pushed the double glass doors of the boardroom open. They hit the walls with a deafening crack.
The room fell dead silent.
Raymond froze, his smile dropping instantly. "Serena? What are you doing here? You’re supposed to be resting."
"I have rested enough, Raymond," I said, my voice projecting with an absolute, unyielding authority that made several board members physically sit back in their chairs. I walked the length of the table, stopping directly opposite him.
"Serena, you are having a breakdown," Raymond tried to pivot, looking at the board members with manufactured pity. "Security, please escort my wife—"
"Security works for me," I snapped, placing both hands flat on the mahogany table. I looked at Malcolm, whose fingers were frozen over his keyboard. "Hit enter, Malcolm. Try to move the money."
Malcolm swallowed hard, a bead of sweat rolling down his temple. He pressed the key.
A massive, red ACCESS DENIED: FEDERAL ASSET FREEZE error message flashed onto the main projector screen behind Raymond.
Raymond’s face drained of every drop of color. "What is this? Malcolm, fix it!"
"He can't fix it, Raymond," I whispered, the silence in the room heavy enough to crush bone. "Because at 2:00 A.M. on Wednesday, I took a little trip into Malcolm’s fireproof safe. I found the ghost ledger."
Malcolm let out a pathetic, high-pitched gasp, pushing his chair away from the table as if it were on fire.
I pulled the black hard drive from my pocket and dropped it onto the table. The loud clack echoed like a gunshot.
"I have every wire transfer. I have the inflated vendor contracts. I have the incorporation documents for R&G Enterprises registered in the Caymans," I listed, my eyes locked on Raymond as his world systematically imploded. "You didn't just try to steal my company. You conspired with your mistress to bankrupt my family's legacy and frame me for it."
"It’s a lie!" Raymond roared, slamming his fists on the table, the charismatic mask completely gone, revealing the desperate, feral monster underneath. "She fabricated it! She’s crazy!"

"I am completely sane," I said softly. I looked toward the doors. "But I think you’re going to need a lawyer."
The doors opened, and the FBI agents walked in, flashing their badges. The absolute destruction of Raymond Mercer had officially begun.
