Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Guillotine

The next morning, Marissa arrived at the Whitmore estate exactly at 6:50 AM. She wore her modest gray coat, her head down, carrying her small lunch bag. She quietly retrieved her cleaning supplies and walked into the grand foyer.

Adrian was waiting for her. He wasn't wearing his usual tailored suit; he was dressed in a simple sweater and jeans.

"Mr. Whitmore," Marissa gasped, nearly dropping her supplies. "I apologize, I didn't realize you were home. I'll start in the East Wing."

"Put the supplies down, Marissa," Adrian said gently.

She froze, the familiar terror returning to her eyes. "Sir, please. I need this job. If I'm late, I—"

"I know about Daniel," Adrian interrupted, his voice thick with an emotion he had never allowed himself to show. "I know about Marcus. I know about Victor. And I have the blue envelope."

Marissa’s knees gave out. She collapsed onto the marble floor, burying her face in her hands, a hollow, agonizing sob tearing from her throat. "They're going to take Owen," she wept. "Marcus promised me that if I ever told you, he would plant drugs in my apartment and call Child Protective Services. I had to protect my baby."

Adrian sank to the floor beside her, completely ignoring the rules of class and employment. He placed a gentle, grounding hand on her shoulder.

"No one is taking your son," Adrian promised, his voice turning to steel. "My family broke you to protect their wealth. Today, I am going to use that same wealth to break them. You are never picking up a sponge in this house again. You are coming with me."

An hour later, Adrian walked into the glass-walled boardroom of Whitmore Infrastructure. Marissa stood right beside him, her head held high, clutching the blue envelope.

Uncle Marcus sat at the head of the massive mahogany table, laughing with three other senior executives. When he saw Adrian and the housekeeper walk in, his laughter died instantly.

"Adrian, what is the meaning of this?" Marcus demanded, his face flushing red. "Why is your maid in the executive boardroom?"

"She isn't a maid," Adrian said, tossing the blue envelope into the center of the table. The heavy thud echoed in the silent room. "She is the sole heir to the Daniel Keane estate. And she is the woman who is going to put you in a federal penitentiary."
