Chapter 13 - The Digital Guillotine

The trap was set, but apex predators are rarely careless. Victoria, anticipating a digital counter-strike, decided to move the war into the physical world.
It was 2:00 AM. A violent autumn storm was battering the Massachusetts countryside, the wind howling against the geometric lines of our roof. Michael and I were still awake, pouring over the raw data logs at the kitchen island.
Suddenly, the encrypted monitors on the counter flickered, overriding our internal network. A video feed snapped onto the screen.
Sitting in a dimly lit, lavish hotel suite was Sophie. She looked nothing like the broken woman who had been living with our parents. She was draped in expensive silk, her eyes wild with a manic, unhinged arrogance. Behind her stood two massive, silent men in dark suits—Victoria’s mercenaries.
"Hello, big sister," Sophie sneered, swirling a glass of champagne. "I see your stock is tanking. Victoria sends her regards. You really thought you could just leave me in the dirt and play queen of Boston? You have one hour to sign the resignation papers for Vanguard, or I leak the final video—a perfect deepfake of Michael orchestrating a murder."
"You think you hold the cards, Sophie?" I stepped forward, looking directly into the camera lens, my voice dripping with lethal, freezing calm. "You didn't build an empire. You’re just a stray dog Victoria put on a diamond leash. Check your rendering queue."
Sophie’s arrogant smirk faltered. On the video feed, I could hear the sudden, frantic shouting of a technician off-camera.
"What did you do?" Sophie demanded, leaning closer to her laptop, her eyes wide with sudden, horrifying realization.
"While you were busy monologuing, Sophie, my team executed a Trojan protocol," I explained, leaning my hands on the indestructible steel counter. "We didn't just trace your AI workflows. We reverse-engineered them. Ten seconds ago, the digital parasite we injected into your architecture detonated."
"Shut it down!" Sophie screamed, her pristine facade shattering into sheer panic.
"It’s too late," Michael said, stepping up beside me, his presence a massive, immovable force. "You used Victoria's cartel-linked servers, Sophie. The parasite just stripped away your encrypted VPNs. It is currently broadcasting Victoria’s entire shadow ledger, her offshore bank accounts, and your exact GPS coordinates to the federal cyber-crimes division."
On the screen, the lavish hotel suite erupted into chaos. Red emergency lights began flashing on Sophie's hardware as the malware ripped through her localized firewalls like a buzzsaw.
"You can't do this to me!" Sophie roared, spittle flying from her lips. "I am protected!"
"No one is untouchable," I whispered.
Before Sophie could reach for the camera to cut the feed, the heavy doors of her hotel suite violently burst open. A tactical team of armed federal agents flooded the room, their laser sights cutting through the dim light.

"Sophie Evans!" the lead agent barked, slamming my sister against the wall and wrenching her arms behind her back. "You are under arrest for domestic cyber-terrorism, corporate extortion, and international wire fraud!"
I watched without a single ounce of pity as the last remaining venomous root of my past was dragged out of the room in steel chains. The connection abruptly terminated, leaving our kitchen in stunning, absolute silence.
