Chapter 4 - The Execution of the King

The sheer volume of the intrusion paralyzed the room. Six uniformed police officers, two plainclothes detectives, a representative from Child Protective Services, and my brother David flooded into the foyer and marched directly into the kitchen.

Marcus froze, his arrogant, threatening posture instantly evaporating into profound shock.

“What the hell is this?!” Marcus shouted, his voice cracking as he looked at the armed officers surrounding his kitchen island. “Get out of my house! Do you know who I am? I am the CEO of—”

“Marcus Vance, you are under arrest for aggravated felony child abuse, domestic battery, and assault with a deadly weapon,” the lead detective barked, completely unbothered by Marcus’s corporate title. Two officers moved in instantly, grabbing Marcus by the arms and slamming him face-first onto the marble island. The sound of his jaw hitting the stone echoed sharply through the kitchen.

“Get your hands off me!” Marcus screamed, thrashing wildly as the heavy steel handcuffs clicked shut around his wrists. “This is insane! My wife is a hysterical liar! My daughter attacked my girlfriend! She destroyed ten thousand dollars of property!”

Chloe leaped off her stool, her face completely drained of blood. She clutched the silk robe tightly around her waist, backing away in sheer terror. “He’s telling the truth! The little girl is psychotic! She ripped my dress to shreds with scissors! I was the victim here!”

“Really?” I asked, stepping forward and pulling a digital tablet from my pocket. I looked at the lead detective and my brother. “Because I seem to have a slightly different version of events.”

I pressed play, holding the screen up so Marcus—whose face was still pinned to the marble—and Chloe could both see it clearly.

The high-definition video filled the kitchen with undeniable truth. The officers watched in silence as Chloe slashed the dress herself, poured the wine, and violently dragged my daughter from beneath the bed. Then, the video showed Marcus walking in and unbuckling his belt.

Chloe let out a pathetic, broken gasp, her hands flying to her mouth as she watched her flawless, sadistic lie unravel in real-time.

Marcus stopped struggling. He stared at the screen, his eyes widening in absolute, unadulterated horror. He wasn't horrified by what he had done to his daughter; he was horrified by the realization that he had been entirely manipulated by his mistress into committing a twenty-year felony on a hidden camera. He had burned his own life to the ground for a woman who had orchestrated the entire event.

“You crazy bitch!” Marcus roared, twisting his head to look at Chloe with murderous, unfiltered hatred. “You told me she did it! You set me up!”

“I... I didn't mean it!” Chloe shrieked, backing into the refrigerator, tears of sheer panic ruining her makeup. “I just wanted her out of the house! You said you hated them!”

“Chloe Reed,” the second detective stepped forward, pulling a pair of handcuffs from his belt. “You are under arrest for felony child endangerment, conspiracy, and filing a false police report. Turn around and put your hands behind your back.”

“No! Please!” Chloe wept hysterically as the cold steel locked around her wrists. The glamorous, untouchable mistress was reduced to a sobbing, disgraced criminal in a matter of seconds.

David walked over to me, wrapping a strong, protective arm around my shoulders. He looked down at Marcus, who was pinned to the counter, entirely stripped of his power, his wealth, and his dignity.

“You have until tomorrow morning to transfer ten thousand dollars into his account, Claire,” David mocked, his voice dripping with lethal satisfaction. “Oh, wait. He won't have a bank account by tomorrow. Because as your legal counsel, I’m freezing every single marital asset before noon.”
