Chapter 9 - Blood in the Boardroom

Friday morning arrived with a torrential downpour, the rain lashing against the floor-to-ceiling windows of my executive boardroom.

Eleanor Sterling did not come alone. She arrived with a fleet of corporate litigators, carrying briefcases filled with the legal paperwork designed to officially terminate my control of the company. She walked into the room radiating the arrogant, untouchable confidence of a queen stepping up to an execution block.

"I told you the clock was ticking, my dear," Eleanor smiled, taking her seat at the opposite end of the mahogany table. "My attorneys have already filed the injunction. As of 9:00 AM, your access to the corporate capital is entirely revoked. Sign the surrender documents, and I might allow you to keep the house."

I sat perfectly still, my hands folded neatly on the polished wood. David sat beside me, his tablet open, watching the hidden digital tripwire we had set the night before.

"You are a very arrogant woman, Eleanor," I said, my voice echoing with lethal, uncompromising authority. "You thought you could walk into my sanctuary and take what I built with my own blood. You thought because I survived your son, I was broken."

"You are broken," Eleanor sneered, signaling her lead attorney to push the surrender documents across the table. "You are just too stupid to realize it yet. Execute the freeze."

Her attorney tapped a command into his encrypted laptop, officially requesting the international asset transfer from the Cayman trust to lock me out.

I didn't sign the paper. I just watched the digital display mounted on the boardroom wall.

Instantly, the screen violently flashed red.

Eleanor’s attorney gasped, frantically clawing at his keyboard as a loud, piercing alarm erupted from his laptop. "Mrs. Sterling... our servers. We are experiencing a catastrophic breach."

"What are you talking about?" Eleanor snapped, her immaculate composure shattering into sheer, unadulterated panic as she stood up.

"You didn't execute a freeze, Eleanor," I whispered, leaning forward, the absolute truth of my wrath vibrating through the room. "You just executed a high-frequency transfer protocol. The malware you pulled into your system is currently stripping away your military-grade VPNs. It is taking your illegal gambling ledgers, your international money laundering receipts, and your entire shadow trust, and it is funneling the raw data directly into the public, verifiable inboxes of the FBI, the SEC, and Interpol."

"You crashed my servers!" Eleanor shrieked, the color completely draining from her aristocratic face.

"I didn't crash them. I opened them," I corrected softly.

The heavy glass doors of the boardroom violently burst open. A tactical team of armed federal agents flooded the room, their laser sights cutting through the dim light directly onto Eleanor’s chest.

"Eleanor Sterling!" the lead agent barked, slamming the matriarch face-first onto her own legal documents. "You are under arrest for international money laundering, corporate extortion, and wire fraud!"

I watched without a single ounce of pity as the last remaining venomous root of Marcus’s bloodline was dragged out of my building in heavy steel handcuffs, screaming as her trillion-dollar empire collapsed into absolute ruin.
