Chapter 13 - The Titanium Defense

Michael stepped into the room, locking the heavy bedroom door behind him. He thought he had backed me into an inescapable corner. He thought the shock of his betrayal would break me, reducing me to a weeping, hysterical mess. He fundamentally misunderstood the woman standing in front of him.
I didn't back away. I reached down, closed my laptop, and offered him a chilling, terrifying smile.
"You think you’re the only one who knows how to build a trap, Michael?" I asked softly, my voice projecting with lethal, uncompromising authority.
Michael frowned, his confident smirk fracturing. "What are you talking about? The offshore transfer is already complete. The feds are monitoring the IP address right now."
"I know," I replied smoothly, walking toward him. "Because I’m the one who tipped them off."
His eyes widened in sheer, unadulterated shock.
"Did you honestly believe I wouldn't notice a seventy-five-million-dollar bleed in my own company?" I whispered, stopping just inches from his face. "I knew about the missing capital three weeks ago. I knew about the forged signature. What I didn't know was who on my executive board was holding the knife. So I let the transfer go through. I let you think you were winning."
I reached into the pocket of my blazer and pulled out a small, sleek black flash drive.
"But I didn't just let the money sit in Marcus’s offshore account, Michael. Before you executed the final authorization, I embedded a self-replicating digital parasite into the routing code. The moment that money hit the Caymans, the parasite detonated. It didn't just freeze the funds. It ripped through Marcus’s entire shadow network, unmasking every hidden account, every dirty politician, and every shell company your family has used for the last decade."
Michael’s face drained of all color. He lunged for me, his hands reaching for my throat in a desperate, violent panic.
But I was not a victim. I pivoted sharply, driving the heel of my palm directly into his sternum. As he staggered backward, gasping for air, the heavy mahogany door he had just locked violently burst open.

Four armed federal agents from the SEC’s elite financial crimes division flooded into the master suite, their weapons drawn and badges flashing.
"Michael Vance!" the lead agent barked, slamming Michael against the pristine white wall and wrenching his arms behind his back. "You are under arrest for international wire fraud, corporate espionage, and money laundering. You have the right to remain silent!"
