Chapter 1 - The Mathematical Impossibility

"Gestational age," Dr. Anderson said, her voice cutting through the heavy silence of the examination room like a scalpel. She tapped the top corner of the monitor with a polished fingernail. "Fifteen weeks and four days."
Daniel froze. His arrogant, self-satisfied smirk instantly dissolved into a mask of blank incomprehension.
"What?" he breathed.
"Your vasectomy was exactly eight weeks ago, Mr. Mitchell," Dr. Anderson continued, her tone clinical, completely devoid of the warmth she had shown me moments prior. "This baby was conceived nearly two months before you ever set foot in that clinic. The biometric measurements are undeniable."
Daniel’s eyes darted frantically from the screen to the doctor, and finally, to me.
"That… that can't be right," he stammered, his voice dropping an octave. "We were using precautions before then. I made sure."

"Biology doesn't care about your precautions, Daniel," I said softly, my voice perfectly steady.
The silence that followed was deafening. The lie he had built his entire exit strategy upon—the public humiliation, the Facebook posts, the ruthless divorce demands—had just been vaporized by a simple ultrasound machine. He was the father. There was no other man. He had abandoned his pregnant wife for absolutely nothing.
