Chapter 5 - Total Erasure

Daniel fell to his knees beside the examination table. The arrogance was completely eradicated, replaced by the pathetic, weeping shell of a man who realized he had just destroyed his own universe.
"Lauren, please," he sobbed, reaching out to touch the hem of my white blazer. "Please. It's our baby. I'm so sorry. I’ll do anything. Let me come home."
I stood up, stepping gracefully out of his reach.
"You don't have a home, Daniel," I said, adjusting my coat. "The house was in my name. The locks were changed an hour ago. Your mother's garbage bags are waiting for you on the curb."
I turned to Dr. Anderson, who had watched the entire execution in stunned, silent awe.
"Thank you for the appointment, Doctor," I smiled warmly. "I'll see you next month."

I walked out of the clinic, my heels clicking sharply against the linoleum floor. Outside, the afternoon sun was bright and blinding. A private black SUV was waiting for me at the curb. I climbed into the leather backseat, placed a protective hand over my stomach, and instructed the driver to take me to the airport.
Daniel Mitchell had wanted a fast exit from our marriage. I just made sure he left with absolutely nothing.
