Chapter 3 - The Financial Guillotine

Vanessa’s hands shook as she opened the folder. She wasn't looking at divorce papers.

"What is this?" Daniel demanded, snatching the documents from her. His eyes scanned the heavy legal text, and the remaining color completely drained from his face.

"It's a notice of immediate asset liquidation and corporate restructuring," I explained, leaning back. "You’re the CEO of Mitchell Innovations, Daniel. But you seem to have forgotten who the primary silent investor is."

Daniel stopped reading. He looked at me, a profound, sickening panic setting in.

"When we married, I stepped back from my career in forensic accounting so you could play the big-shot startup founder," I said, my voice echoing off the sterile walls. "But the two million dollars in seed capital came from my family’s trust. Structured as a convertible note. With a very specific, ironclad moral turpitude clause."

"Lauren, no," Daniel whispered.

"By filing for a publicly at-fault divorce based on fabricated infidelity, and by posting defamatory statements about me on social media, you triggered the clause," I continued smoothly. "At 8:00 a.m. this morning, my legal team executed the conversion. I now own eighty-two percent of your company. And ten minutes ago, while you were walking through the lobby of this clinic to humiliate me, I fired you."
