Chapter 12 - The War RoomThe line went dead. The silence in my office was deafening. Chloe was staring at me, her eyes wide with absolute terror.

Victor Vance had orchestrated the perfect extortion. He had weaponized the very platforms I relied on, using artificial intelligence to fabricate a reality that would obliterate my reputation. He expected me to panic. He expected the desperate, terrified woman his brother used to control to resurface and sign away her life’s work just to make the nightmare stop.
I picked up my phone and called the only man who could match the darkness of this fight.
"Julian," I said the moment he answered. "We have a war."
Within thirty minutes, Julian had completely locked down the executive floor of Aura Media. My pristine boardroom was transformed into a cyber-security bunker. Julian stripped off his suit jacket, his sleeves rolled up, his dark eyes radiating a terrifying, protective fury as he analyzed the deepfake video on the main projector.
"The biometric mapping is flawless," Julian murmured, pacing the length of the room. "The AI rendering software he used is military-grade. If this hits the timeline of those Facebook drama pages, the algorithmic curiosity gap will guarantee millions of views before we can even draft a cease-and-desist."
"He’s using thousands of VIA clones to artificially boost the engagement," I said, leaning over the mahogany table, my mind shifting into hyper-focus. "He wants me to sign over my shares by 8:00 PM. If I don't, he triggers the upload."
"We are not surrendering a single share of this company," Julian said, his voice a low, commanding rumble that instantly steadied my racing heart. He walked over and placed his hands on my shoulders. "Victor thinks he’s a ghost because he hides behind bot farms. But bots require servers, and servers require massive bandwidth. We don't need to block the video, Elena. We need to hijack the network."
I looked up at him, a brilliant, dangerous spark igniting in my chest. "You want to intercept his algorithmic strike."
"Exactly," Julian smiled—a predator baring his teeth. "Victor is relying on those black-market VIA clone accounts to push the deepfake. But what if we feed his automated network a completely different script? A script that tells the truth about Victor Vance."
"We need leverage," I realized, pacing back to the monitors. "We need hard evidence of Victor’s dark money laundering to swap into the video file. But his accounts are encrypted behind five layers of offshore proxies."
"Leave the proxies to me," Julian said, pulling out his encrypted laptop. "Before I was a corporate attorney, I was a federal prosecutor who hunted down shadow syndicates. Victor has a weakness. He’s funding this massive digital sabotage with cryptocurrency, which means there is a digital ledger. Give me four hours."
For the next four hours, the war room was a blur of frantic typing and hushed, aggressive commands. I utilized my own digital marketing team to craft the ultimate Trojan Horse. We created our own suspenseful drama script, utilizing the exact same clickbait copywriting tactics Victor favored. But instead of targeting my company, we targeted him.
We engineered a counter-video, leveraging the same text-to-video AI tools. It was a digital masterpiece of public execution, detailing exactly how Victor Vance used illegal funds to manipulate the American stock market.
At 7:00 PM, Julian slammed his hand on the desk. "Got him! I cracked the proxy server. I have the IP addresses of his bot farms and the cryptocurrency receipts linking him directly to the purchase of the VIA clone accounts."
"Embed the data receipts into our counter-video," I commanded my team.
At 7:45 PM, fifteen minutes before Victor’s deadline, my phone rang.
"Elena," Victor’s voice was dripping with arrogant impatience. "I haven't received the transfer documents. Are you really going to force me to destroy you?"
I stood up, walking over to the floor-to-ceiling windows, looking out over the glittering Washington D.C. skyline. I felt no fear. I felt nothing but absolute, uncompromising power.
"I’m not signing anything, Victor," I said smoothly. "In fact, I encourage you to push the upload button. Go ahead. Launch your deepfake."

There was a tense, confused silence on the line. "You’re bluffing. You wouldn't risk your company."
"I don't play poker with terrorists," I whispered, my voice turning to ice. "Push the button, Victor. Let’s see what happens."
