The nursery was suffocatingly silent for a fraction of a second as the absolute gravity of the betrayal settled over the room.
If you had a photograph of the room at that exact, paradigm-shifting moment—you would see the absolute collapse of a five-year conspiracy. In the foreground of the image, I am standing in my sharp white blouse, tears of shock pooling in my eyes but my posture radiating unbreakable resolve. In the background, Daniel is frozen in a pathetic, defensive stance, realizing he is trapped. Celeste is glaring at me with venomous calculation. And sitting in the rocking chair is Sophie, clutching her newborn, her face a portrait of absolute devastation as she realizes the man she married does not legally exist.
"David," Sophie breathed, her voice shaking violently. "Is it true? Did you fake your death?"

"I did it so we could be together eventually!" Daniel pleaded, entirely missing the horrifying implications of his own words. "I changed my name. I started over. I met you. We have a family now—"
"You committed identity fraud and bigamy," I interrupted coldly. "Your marriage to Sophie is entirely legally void. You are still married to me."
