Chapter 4 - The Guillotine Drops

The massive mahogany boardroom table was surrounded by twelve grim-faced members of the board of directors. These were the men and women who had invested millions into Summit Crest. At the far end of the room stood a projection screen, currently blank.
Gavin walked in, projecting a false, arrogant confidence. He pulled out a chair for me in the secondary row, positioning me perfectly in the background like a decorative prop. I sat down, resting my purse on my lap.
"Let's get this over with," stated Richard Vance, the stony-faced chairman of the board. "Gavin, you have severely compromised the integrity of this firm. The video is a disaster. We are bleeding investor confidence by the hour. We are prepared to vote on your immediate termination for gross violation of the executive morality clause."
"Richard, please," Gavin began, launching into the sickening, rehearsed speech he had been practicing for days. "What happened on that video was a terrible, isolated lapse in judgment. It was a private matter that unfortunately became public. But it does not reflect my ability to lead this company. Furthermore, it is a matter that my family has already resolved."
Gavin turned, gesturing grandly toward me.
"My wife, Nora, is here today to show her unwavering support," Gavin announced, his voice dripping with feigned humility. "She understands the immense pressure of my position. We are committed to moving forward, together. There is no scandal here, gentlemen. Just a family working through a hurdle."
Twelve pairs of eyes shifted to me, filled with a mixture of pity and quiet disdain. They expected me to lower my head and weep.
Instead, I stood up.
I didn't smile. I didn't nod. I calmly walked past Gavin, ignoring his frantic, whispered command to "sit the hell down," and moved directly to the front of the boardroom. I pulled the silver USB drive from my purse, plugged it into the presentation laptop on the podium, and tapped the keyboard.
The massive screen behind me illuminated. It didn't show a picture of our happy family. It displayed a highly detailed, undeniable forensic ledger tracking $450,000 of embezzled corporate funds directly to Camila's apartment lease, luxury vacations, and a $110,000 diamond necklace.
The boardroom erupted into stunned, chaotic murmurs. Gavin’s face drained of all color, his jaw literally dropping open as he stared at the screen.
"What the hell is this?" Richard Vance demanded, standing up.
"That," I said, my voice ringing out clearly and powerfully across the room, "is a detailed record of corporate embezzlement executed by your CEO over the last two years. The diamond necklace you all saw on that livestream was paid for by your marketing department."
"Nora, shut your mouth!" Gavin screamed, lunging forward. Two security guards immediately stepped off the wall, physically blocking him.
"But that isn't the most important document we need to discuss today," I continued, pressing the next slide. A massive, high-definition scan of my father’s original trust documents appeared on the screen, alongside a freshly stamped legal injunction.
"For three years, Gavin Prescott has been operating as CEO using a forged proxy signature," I announced to the paralyzed room. "He claimed the Vanguard shares were dissolved. They were not. My father, Arthur Vance, held fifty-one percent of the voting shares of this company. As his sole heir, those shares belong exclusively to me."
I turned to look directly at the man who had fed me crumbs while dining on my inheritance.

"I am officially revoking the proxy," I stated, the weight of the words sealing his absolute destruction. "As the majority shareholder of Summit Crest Group, I am overriding the board's vote. Gavin Prescott is not stepping down with a severance package. He is fired, effective immediately, for corporate fraud. And my legal team has already forwarded this audit to the district attorney."
Gavin collapsed into a nearby chair, his chest heaving, his eyes wide with the horrifying realization that the helpless, submissive wife he had terrorized for years was the very woman holding the axe over his neck.
