Chapter 9 - The Execution Gala

We didn't just have evidence; we had a loaded digital weapon. But to maximize Richard’s destruction and ensure Camila’s permanent downfall, the execution had to be flawless and unequivocally public.

I knew Richard’s narcissistic need for high-society validation was his greatest weakness. He had planned to use the upcoming Summit Crest Annual Charity Gala to formally announce his hostile takeover to the media and the board of directors, cementing his victory in front of the entire Boston elite.

I let him believe he had won. I let him organize the event, invite the press, and prepare his triumphant speech. They thought they were walking into my funeral. They didn't realize I had built their guillotine.

The grand ballroom of the Four Seasons was a masterpiece of opulence, packed with the city's most powerful executives and billionaires. Elias and I walked through the grand double doors together, an imposing, impenetrable fortress of absolute power. I wore a backless, crimson silk gown that commanded the attention of the entire room.

At exactly 9:00 PM, Richard strode onto the main stage, adjusting his microphone. Camila stood proudly at the edge of the stage, draped in diamonds she hadn't earned, practically vibrating with smug anticipation.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Richard’s voice boomed over the speakers, dripping with arrogant triumph. "Tonight marks a new era for Summit Crest. Due to gross financial mismanagement by the previous leadership, Vanguard Holdings has officially acquired a controlling interest in this company. We will be restructuring immediately to restore profitability."

He signaled the AV technician, intending to display his new corporate logo on the massive eighty-foot digital screens surrounding the ballroom.

I stood in the center of the room, calmly sipping my vintage champagne, and gave Elias a subtle, sharp nod.

Elias, who had quietly bypassed the hotel’s security network an hour prior, hijacked the main feed from his encrypted tablet.

The screens didn't display the Vanguard logo. They illuminated with undeniable, damning evidence of international money laundering and corporate cyber-terrorism.

It was a digital masterpiece of public execution. The colossal screens displayed the wire transfer receipts from the Cyprus bank, the IP logs tying Richard’s shadow syndicate directly to illegal offshore arms dealing, and the raw, forged signature files Gavin had used to secure the loan. Finally, the audio system blasted a crystal-clear recorded phone call Elias had intercepted between Richard and a known cartel associate, discussing the laundering of the fifty million dollars through Summit Crest.

The entire gala erupted into shocked gasps and furious whispers. The billionaires and executives physically stepped away from Richard and Camila, looking at them with absolute, unadulterated disgust.

"You are a corporate terrorist, Richard," I said, my voice echoing clearly through the silent, captivated room, carrying the weight of an absolute queen. "You tried to use illegal, blood-soaked money to steal my father’s empire."

Richard glared at me, his chest heaving, his face drained of all color. His jaw worked silently as the reality of his absolute destruction washed over him. Camila looked up at the screens, realized Richard was about to be federally indicted, and literally dropped her champagne flute, backing away from the stage in sheer horror.

"FBI! Nobody move!"

The command thundered through the grand ballroom. From the stairwells and the main entrances, dozens of heavily armed federal agents swarmed the room. Laser sights danced across Richard’s bespoke suit.

"Richard Sterling, you are under arrest for federal wire fraud, money laundering, and racketeering," the lead agent announced, violently pulling his arms behind his back to snap heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists.

Camila tried to slip out the side door, but two female agents intercepted her, slamming her against the wall and cuffing her as an accessory to the fraud.

"Elena!" Camila shrieked, her mascara running down her face as she struggled against the agents. "You can't do this to me! I have nothing!"

"You made your choice, Camila," I said coldly, looking down at the pathetic, broken woman who had tried to steal my life. "Enjoy your new wardrobe. I hear orange is the new black."
