Chapter 18 - The Viper’s GalaThe ambient chatter of the Lancaster Ballroom began to die down in a ripple effect as Harrison and I cut through the sea of European elites. There was an undeniable, terrifying gravity to our presence. We did not look like defendants fleeing an asset freeze; we looked like gods descending to claim a blood debt.

Genevieve recovered her aristocratic composure with impressive speed, though the tightening of her jaw betrayed the shock rippling through her nerves. She handed her champagne flute to a passing waiter and folded her hands, watching us approach. Thomas Sterling, however, looked like a man who had just spotted an executioner carrying an axe. His face drained of color, and he instinctively took a step behind Genevieve.
"Harrison," Genevieve purred, her British accent dripping with venomous condescension as we stopped three feet from her. "How delightfully vulgar of you to cross an ocean uninvited. I thought you would be in Pennsylvania, packing your bags for a federal holding facility."
"The only person packing bags tonight is you, Genevieve," Harrison replied smoothly, his voice a low, lethal baritone that carried easily over the silent, staring crowd. "Though I doubt you’ll need much luggage in a British maximum-security prison."
Genevieve scoffed, offering a patronizing laugh to the surrounding Swiss bankers. "Still as dramatically unhinged as your father. Gentlemen, please excuse my stepson. He is currently suffering from a rather tragic, highly publicized mental collapse under the weight of a federal racketeering indictment in New York."
"Is that what you told these investors, Genevieve?" I asked, stepping forward. My emerald silk gown caught the light of the chandeliers, and my voice rang with crystal-clear, razor-sharp authority. "Did you tell them that you are using forged DOJ ledgers to extort an American firm because your Russian bond portfolio evaporated, leaving you two hundred million dollars in the red to the Albanian mob?"
A collective, horrified gasp rippled through the gathering of bankers. Several investors immediately set their drinks down and stepped away from Genevieve as if she were radioactive.
"You insolent little Midwestern peasant," Genevieve hissed, her refined mask cracking, revealing the vicious, desperate monster beneath. "Security! Remove these people from my event immediately!"
Four private security guards moved toward us, but Thomas Sterling stepped forward, his hand shaking violently as he grabbed Genevieve’s arm.
"Genevieve, stop," Sterling whispered, sweat beading on his forehead. He stared at me with unadulterated terror. "She’s not bluffing."
"Of course I'm not bluffing, Thomas," I said softly, opening my diamond-encrusted clutch. I pulled out a sleek, titanium flash drive and held it up between two manicured fingers. "Do you recognize this, Mr. Deputy Director? It contains the complete, unredacted digital mirror of your personal Cayman accounts. Specifically, the five-million-dollar wire transfer you received forty-eight hours ago from an offshore shell company registered to Genevieve’s London holding firm."
Thomas Sterling looked like he was about to vomit on the marble floor.
"You thought you were clever, routing the bribe through three layers of Swiss numbered trusts before authenticating the forged whistleblower documents for the federal judge," I continued, stepping entirely into Genevieve’s personal space. "You forgot that my firm specializes in forensic asset tracing. We didn't just find the wire, Thomas. We found the IP address in your Kensington townhouse where you physically uploaded the fake DOJ files."
"You... you hacked my private servers," Sterling choked out, his voice barely a rasp.
"I didn't hack anything, Thomas," Harrison smiled—a terrifying, predatory expression that promised absolute ruin. "My firm filed an emergency petition with the British High Court three hours ago under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty. A squad of detectives from Scotland Yard’s Serious Fraud Office is currently executing a search warrant on your Kensington townhouse. They already have the physical hard drives."
Genevieve turned on Sterling, her eyes blazing with fury. "You idiot! You told me the digital trail was completely scrubbed!"
"It was!" Sterling cried, backing away. "She couldn't have breached those firewalls in twenty-four hours!"
"You underestimated an architect, Genevieve," I whispered, my eyes locking onto the matriarch with the cold, absolute finality of a closing coffin. "You thought you were playing chess with a desperate wife. But I wrote the playbook on destroying legacy parasites like you. You wanted our empire? You just signed your own death warrant."
The heavy double doors of the Lancaster Ballroom swung open with a resounding thud.
A dozen uniformed officers from London’s Metropolitan Police, accompanied by plainclothes investigators from the Serious Fraud Office, marched into the room. The lead inspector, a stern woman with a badge displayed on her lapel, walked directly toward our circle.

"Genevieve Vance and Thomas Sterling?" the inspector announced, her voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings. "You are both under arrest pursuant to an international warrant issued by the Crown Prosecution Service in conjunction with the United States Department of Justice, on charges of international wire fraud, bribery of a federal official, and conspiracy to obstruct justice."
The room descended into utter, chaotic silence.
