Chapter 20 - The Unbreakable CrownThe true measure of a queen is not the enemies she destroys, but the sanctuary she builds for those she loves.

One year after the arrest of Genevieve Vance in London, the world was bathed in the warm, golden light of late spring.
The Pennsylvania estate was in full, breathtaking bloom. The rolling hills were a vibrant emerald green, framed by ancient oak trees and endless azure skies. The air smelled of blooming jasmine, sweet clover, and absolute, unconditional peace.
I stood on the expansive wrap-around wooden porch of our farmhouse, wearing a flowing white linen dress, the gentle morning breeze playing with my hair.
Down on the immaculate lawn, the sound of pure, unbridled laughter echoed through the valley.
Maya, now seven years old, was racing across the grass on her pony, guided by my father, who walked beside her with a proud, beaming smile. Her laughter was bright, fearless, and entirely untouched by the darkness of the world. She would never know the terror of a courtroom, the threat of an asset freeze, or the shadow of greedy, corrupt relatives. She was safe behind a fortress forged of steel, love, and absolute power.
I held a warm mug of tea, resting my hand gently against the wooden railing.
I heard the soft, familiar footsteps on the porch behind me.
Harrison walked out through the French doors. He had abandoned his bespoke suits and court briefs for the weekend, wearing a soft gray sweater and dark jeans. He looked relaxed, radiant, and devastatingly handsome. The ruthless, terrifying litigator was completely gone; in his place was the man who held my entire heart in his hands.
He walked up behind me, wrapping his strong, heavy arms around my waist, pulling me back against the solid warmth of his chest. He rested his chin on my shoulder, inhaling deeply, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to the curve of my neck.
"Jack just called from the New York office," Harrison murmured, his deep baritone sending a comforting vibration through my spine. "Genevieve’s plea deal was officially rejected by the Crown Court. She was sentenced to twenty-five years without parole at HM Prison Bronzefield. Thomas Sterling took thirty years in federal custody."
"And the firm?" I asked softly, leaning my head back against his shoulder.
"Vance & Sterling just finalized the acquisition of the London banking syndicate," Harrison smiled against my skin. "We officially control the largest corporate defense network in the English-speaking world. The board is completely clear, Victoria. There are no more ghosts. There is no one left to fight."
"There will always be someone who looks at what we have and thinks they can take it, Harrison," I replied, turning slightly in his embrace to look up into his intense, fiercely devoted dark eyes.
"Let them try," Harrison whispered, a rogue, brilliant smile touching his lips. He reached down, taking my hand in his, his fingers intertwining with mine, the diamond wedding band on my finger catching the brilliant morning sun. "They will find an electrified fortress and a queen who doesn't miss."
I looked out across the lawn at my daughter riding toward the porch, waving her little hand frantically at us.
"Mommy! Daddy! Look how fast I can go!" Maya shouted, her face glowing with pure joy.
"You're flying, sweetheart!" I called back, my heart swelling with a profound, unshakeable peace that brought tears of pure gratitude to my eyes.
I thought about the long, bloody road that had brought me to this porch. I thought about Andrew, who had tried to gaslight me into a submissive cage. I thought about Eleanor, who had tried to steal my daughter with old money and forged threats. I thought about Genevieve, who had tried to weaponize the federal government to steal my empire.
They had all looked at me and seen a soft, vulnerable target. They had seen a woman they could break, control, or consume.
And they were all rotting in concrete cells, completely destroyed by the very woman they dared to underestimate.
I reached up, wrapping my arms around Harrison’s neck, pulling his face down to mine. He met me halfway, capturing my lips in a deep, passionate, completely intoxicating kiss that sealed our history and ignited our limitless future.
The ordinary, terrified wife who had cried on a Manhattan nursery floor was dead and buried. The queen had taken her throne, and she had built an empire that no man, no ghost, and no weapon could ever tear down.

I was Victoria Vance. I was victorious. I was loved.
And this beautiful, brilliant empire of light was going to last forever.
