Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable QueenOne year later.

The crisp autumn breeze swept across the sprawling, manicured lawns of my new estate in the Virginia countryside. It was a stunning, custom-built home, a fortress of peace and absolute security that I had purchased entirely with my own, clean money.
The toxic chaos of Arthur Sterling was a distant, irrelevant memory. The trial had been the media spectacle of the decade. With the ledger as irrefutable evidence, Arthur was convicted on twenty-two federal charges and sentenced to life in a maximum-security prison. The fake news campaign he had launched against my firm was debunked completely, resulting in Phoenix Financial Forensics becoming the most sought-after, legendary consulting agency on the East Coast.
I stood on the beautiful stone terrace of my home, holding a glass of expensive red wine, watching the sunset paint the sky in brilliant shades of gold and violet.
Inside the house, the sounds of pure, unburdened joy echoed through the open windows. Lily was playing a beautiful melody on the grand piano, Owen was laughing at a joke on the television, and two-year-old Leo was toddling around, squealing happily.
"They sound perfect," Julian’s deep, warm voice murmured from behind me.
I smiled as his strong arms wrapped securely around my waist, pulling me back against his solid chest. He pressed a soft, lingering kiss to the side of my neck, sending a familiar, electric thrill down my spine.
"They are," I whispered, leaning back into his embrace, feeling a profound sense of peace. "They are completely safe."
Julian gently turned me around so I was facing him. His dark, intelligent eyes were entirely softened by an overwhelming, profound emotion. Over the last year, our partnership had evolved into the most beautiful, uncompromising love I had ever known. He celebrated my power, he championed my intelligence, and he guarded my heart as if it were the most valuable thing on earth.
"You built this, Emily," Julian said softly, cupping my face in his warm hands. "You stood in the fire, and instead of letting it burn you, you forged an empire out of it. You are the most incredible, breathtaking woman I have ever known."
I looked up at him, my heart swelling with a love so deep it physically ached. He was my equal. My protector. My partner.
Julian took a step back, and right there on the terrace, under the fading light of the autumn sun, he dropped to one knee.
He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a sleek velvet box. He opened it, revealing a stunning, flawless emerald-cut diamond that caught the golden hour light perfectly.
"I don't just want to fight your battles with you," Julian said, his voice thick with emotion, his eyes locked onto mine. "I want to celebrate every victory, wake up next to you every morning, and build the rest of my life entirely around you. Emily, will you marry me?"
Tears of pure, unadulterated joy spilled over my eyelashes. I looked at the incredible man kneeling before me, the beautiful home radiating with the laughter of my children, and the vast, unburdened horizon stretching out in front of us.
"Yes," I whispered, pulling him up by the lapels of his jacket. "Yes, Julian. A million times, yes."
He slipped the ring onto my finger and pulled me into a sweeping, passionate kiss that sent a shockwave of electricity straight to my toes. The world around us seemed to melt away, leaving only the profound, unbreakable security of the life we had built.
I had been dragged into the deepest, darkest pits of betrayal and manipulation. The villains of my story had made one fatal miscalculation. They believed my kindness was a weakness. They didn't realize that a mother protecting her children, and a woman protecting her peace, is the most dangerous force in the universe.

I took a deep breath of the sweet evening air, leaning my head against my future husband’s chest. The monsters were locked away, the fortress was secure, and my kingdom was finally, permanently at peace.
What kind of challenges would you like Emily to face in her next adventure?
