Chapter 1 - The Flight Logs

I didn’t go back to the suite.

I sat in the quiet corner of the hotel lobby and typed back to the stranger.

“Send it.”

My phone buzzed ten seconds later with a secure file link.

I opened it.

Inside were the private aviation logs for Callaway Holdings.

I cross-referenced them with my own calendar.

March 12th. Axton had told me he was in London for a merger.

The flight log showed his jet landed in Aspen, Colorado.

July 8th. He was supposedly in Tokyo.

Aspen, Colorado.

October 22nd. Chicago.

Aspen, Colorado.

Then, Rowan sent a second file.

It was a property deed for a luxury cabin in Aspen, purchased fourteen months ago.

The buyer was an LLC, but the registered occupant was listed clearly at the bottom.

Mila Vance.

My little sister.

Finally, Rowan sent a photograph.

It was taken from a distance, but the faces were unmistakable.

Axton and Mila, standing on the snow-covered porch of the cabin.

He was holding her face.

They were kissing.

My stomach didn't drop this time.

It hardened into something cold, heavy, and completely unbreakable.
