I typed a message to Rowan.
“Why are you giving this to me?”
His reply was instant.
“Axton bankrupted my brother’s firm last year using illegal short-selling. I’ve been tracking him ever since. I wanted to destroy him, but I realized you hold the match.”
I frowned at the screen.
“What match?”
“Look at his company’s quarterly earnings. Then look at your grandfather’s trust.”
I opened my private banking portal.
My grandfather had left me a trust fund worth fifty million dollars.

I could not access the principal until I turned thirty-five.

Axton’s company wasn’t thriving.
It was drowning in secret debt.
He was weeks away from a catastrophic default.
Suddenly, the entire three-year relationship made sense.
