Chapter 4 - The Legacy

By Tuesday, the whispers started.
Sandra began calling Daniel’s aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She twisted the story.
She claimed I had cheated, that Daniel was brainwashed, and that Ava was an illegitimate mistake.
She threatened to have Daniel removed as CEO of the Mercer family business due to “moral instability.”
She thought the threat of losing his wealth would force him to crawl back.
She thought money was his weakness.
She didn't realize he had already prepared for this.
On Thursday morning, Sandra called an emergency board meeting at the Mercer corporate headquarters.
She planned to formally request Daniel’s removal.
She sat at the head of the long mahogany table, looking smug as the board members filed in.
Daniel arrived last.
He didn’t bring a briefcase.
He brought a police detective.
Sandra’s smug expression faltered.
“Daniel, what is the meaning of this?” she demanded. “This is a private corporate meeting.”
Daniel stood at the end of the table.
“This isn't a corporate meeting, Mom. This is an intervention.”
He placed a flash drive on the table.
“That contains the security footage from our home,” Daniel addressed the board. “It shows my mother illegally accessing my private safe.”
He turned to Detective Cole.
“It also contains the medical photographs of the bruising on my twelve-year-old daughter's face.”
The board members gasped.
Sandra went pale.
May you like
“You wouldn't,” she whispered.
“You slapped a minor,” Daniel said coldly. “And you tried to use corporate blackmail to cover it up.”
