Chapter 5: The Payout

The federal agents swarmed the altar in seconds. They bypassed Julian completely, ignoring the billionaire heir as if he were nothing more than a prop. Two large agents grabbed the thrashing, screaming Arabella by the arms, hauling her out of the tangled mess of her ruined lace gown.
"Svetlana Romanov, you are under arrest for international wire fraud, grand larceny, and extortion," the lead agent barked, the sharp click of heavy steel handcuffs echoing loudly through the microphone on the altar.
"I'm a Sterling! You can't do this! Julian, do something!" Arabella shrieked, her heavy makeup streaking down her face in dark, ugly black tears.
Julian didn't move. He stood frozen against the white roses, his face pale and slick with sweat. He was ruined. The news cycle would devour him. The Sterling empire’s stock would plummet the moment the market realized their CEO was duped by a common con artist. He had thrown away a loyal, brilliant wife for a criminal who had intended to drain his accounts and disappear.
Elena watched the arrest with a cold, deep satisfaction. The screaming, the chaos, the flashing red and blue lights—it was the beautiful symphony of karma. The lead federal agent walked down the steps of the altar and approached Elena. He extended a hand, a look of genuine respect in his eyes.
"Incredible work, Mrs. Sterling," the agent said, shaking her hand firmly. "We’ve been tracking her for three years. Your dossier was flawless. The two-million-dollar bounty wire will be processed to your account by Monday morning."
"It's just Ms. Vance now," Elena corrected smoothly, slipping her hands back into the pockets of her black trench coat. "And thank you. Make sure she doesn't post bail."
Elena turned to leave. She paused for a moment, looking past the weeping, handcuffed fraudster to the broken family she was leaving behind. Beatrice was sobbing hysterically, being fanned by horrified socialites. Julian was staring at the ground, a hollow, shattered shell of an arrogant billionaire. They had despised her for being ordinary. They had thrown her out because she wasn't good enough for their fake, gilded world.

Elena placed a protective hand over her pregnant belly. She didn't say a word to Julian; he wasn't worth the breath. She had secured her child's future, not with Sterling money, but with her own undeniable brilliance.
With her head held high, Elena turned her back on the altar. She walked back down the white carpet, the sea of elite guests parting for her in stunned, terrified silence. The flashing police lights faded into the distance as she stepped out of the grand floral gates, leaving the ashes of the Sterling dynasty burning brightly behind her.
