Chapter 10 - The Bride Who Built a New Life

One year after Declan left me alone on our wedding night, I stood in the same penthouse suite.
Not because I missed him.
Because I had purchased the building’s top floor as the new headquarters for the Whitmore Foundation.
The room no longer smelled like roses and broken promises.
It smelled like fresh paint, coffee, and new beginnings.
The foundation would fund housing grants, legal support for women facing financial abuse, and scholarships for young entrepreneurs.
Brier attended the opening quietly. She now worked for an organization helping women rebuild their lives after controlling relationships.
We were not close.
But we had both changed.
Elias arrived late, carrying two cups of coffee.
“You ready?” he asked.
“For what?”
He smiled toward the window.
“For whatever comes next.”
I looked over Manhattan.
The city still glittered beneath the night sky. But it no longer looked like a promise someone else had made to me.
It looked like a future I had built with my own hands.
I took the coffee from Elias and smiled.
“Yes,” I said.
Then we walked toward the elevator together.
This time, I was not a bride waiting alone behind a closed door.
May you like
I was Sarah Hayes Whitmore.
And I was finally on my way to the life I deserved.
