Chapter 8 - The Man Who Finally Saw Sarah

Elias Grant had been an investor in my father’s first business with Eleanor Whitmore.
He was also the first person to call me after I became CEO.
“I knew your father,” he said over coffee. “He would be proud.”
Elias was not like Declan.
He listened without waiting for his turn to speak. He respected my work without treating it like a threat. He never tried to rescue me from problems I could solve myself.
Over the next several months, his investment firm helped fund Hudson Gate.
We worked late nights reviewing plans, meeting community leaders, and negotiating contracts.

“You don’t have to prove yourself to every person who doubts you,” he said.
“I know.”
“Do you?”
I laughed softly. “I’m learning.”
He smiled.
“So am I.”
There was no dramatic kiss. No grand promise.
Just a quiet moment beside my car, beneath the city lights, where I realized peace could feel more powerful than chaos.
Declan had made love feel like a competition.

Elias made it feel like a choice.
