## Chapter 5: The Lover’s Reveal

Emily huddled in the dark, her fingers flying over the keyboard. She clicked the most recent file.
“She’s so gullible,” Vanessa’s voice came through the speakers. “She actually thinks you’re going to London for work. She has no idea the ‘business trip’ is just a cover for us to finalize the transfer.”
“The inheritance is mine, Vanessa,” Beatrice’s voice replied. “Once she signs, David will be ‘notified’ of her sudden departure. He’s already vulnerable. He’ll believe she left him for the money. And you… you will be there to pick up the pieces and give him a ‘proper’ wife.”
Emily felt a wave of nausea. It wasn't just about the money. Beatrice was trying to destroy her marriage from the inside out, using Vanessa as a pawn to replace her. But there was one more voice on the recording.
“And what if David finds out?” A man’s voice. Not David’s. It was Marcus, the family attorney. “He’s smarter than you give him credit for.”
“David is currently drugged in the guest house,” Beatrice said coldly. “He won’t be waking up until Emily is long gone and the papers are filed. He’ll think it was all a bad dream.”

Emily gasped. David was here! He wasn't in London. He was being held captive in the guest house on the edge of the estate. The betrayal was complete. She wasn't just saving herself; she had to save David.
Suddenly, the wall panel she was leaning against was ripped open. Vanessa stood there, holding a heavy brass lamp. “Found you, you little rat.”
