Part 3: The Truth Ethan Had Been Hiding

The next morning, the Hawthorne mansion felt different.

The silence was heavier.

The staff whispered in corners.

No one smiled.

Everyone knew something had happened between Adrian and Victoria.

No one knew exactly what.

But everyone could feel the storm coming.

Elena barely slept that night.

The images from the file kept replaying in her mind.

The photographs.

The reports.

And especially that handwritten note.

“Once Adrian signs the trust transfer, the boy will no longer be necessary.”

The words haunted her.

She couldn’t understand how any mother could write such a thing about her own child.

Unless…

She wasn’t truly thinking like a mother.

At breakfast, Ethan sat quietly beside Elena.

Normally he would talk about dinosaurs or superheroes.

Today he barely touched his food.

His eyes constantly drifted toward the doorway.

As if he expected someone to appear.

Someone he feared.

“Are you okay?” Elena asked softly.

Ethan hesitated.

Then shook his head.

“No.”

Elena exchanged a glance with Adrian.

The boy looked exhausted.

More than exhausted.

Terrified.

Adrian finally put down his coffee.

“Ethan.”

The child immediately sat straighter.

Almost like a soldier waiting for orders.

The reaction broke Adrian’s heart.

“When was the last time you talked to your mother?”

The boy lowered his eyes.

“Yesterday.”

“What happened?”

Silence.

A very long silence.

Then Ethan whispered:

“She told me not to tell anyone.”

Adrian froze.

“What did she tell you not to tell?”

The boy’s hands began shaking.

Elena gently reached over and held them.

Ethan looked at her.

Then at his father.

And finally spoke.

“Mom says I’m the reason she can’t be happy.”

The room became completely still.

Nobody moved.

Nobody breathed.

Adrian felt his chest tighten.

“What?”

Ethan’s voice cracked.

“She says if I wasn’t here everything would be easier.”

Elena felt tears burning behind her eyes.

No child should ever hear words like that.

Especially from a parent.

But Ethan wasn’t finished.

“There was a man.”

Adrian frowned.

“What man?”

“The one who comes when you’re gone.”

Adrian’s face hardened immediately.

“What are you talking about?”

Ethan swallowed nervously.

“A man visits Mom when you’re traveling.”

The dining room suddenly felt colder.

Elena noticed Adrian’s knuckles turning white.

“How often?” Adrian asked.

“A lot.”

The boy looked frightened now.

“Mom told me never to tell you.”

The silence that followed felt endless.

Adrian stood slowly.

Every piece of information from the file.

Every warning sign.

Every lie.

They were beginning to connect.

Victoria wasn’t simply cruel.

She was hiding something.

Something much bigger.

That afternoon Adrian hired a private investigator.

By evening, the first results arrived.

And they were worse than he imagined.

The mystery man was not just a friend.

His name was Marcus Lang.

A financial consultant.

And according to records, he had been meeting Victoria regularly for nearly two years.

Hotels.

Private clubs.

Vacation properties.

Secret accounts.

The evidence kept growing.

Then came the discovery that changed everything.

Marcus Lang was connected to a legal firm preparing documents related to Ethan’s trust fund.

The same trust fund mentioned in the note Elena found.

Adrian stared at the report for nearly ten minutes.

His entire body felt numb.

Because the conclusion was becoming impossible to ignore.

Someone wanted access to Ethan’s inheritance.

And Ethan himself had become an obstacle.

Meanwhile, upstairs, Victoria was packing.

Not because she planned to leave.

Because she planned to fight.

Her lawyer had already arrived.

She sat inside her private office reviewing documents.

Family records.

Financial agreements.

Media contacts.

She intended to destroy anyone standing against her.

Especially Elena.

“She’s nobody,” Victoria said coldly.

The lawyer looked uncertain.

“Public sympathy may not agree.”

Victoria laughed.

“Then we’ll make sure the public hears a different story.”

She slid a folder across the desk.

Inside were photographs.

Pictures of Elena comforting Ethan.

Helping him study.

Holding his hand.

Ordinary moments.

Innocent moments.

Victoria smiled.

“We’ll call it manipulation.”

The lawyer stared.

Victoria continued.

“A poor nanny targeting a wealthy family.”

The man shifted uncomfortably.

Even he seemed disturbed.

But Victoria didn’t care.

She had spent her entire life controlling narratives.

And she intended to control this one too.

What she didn’t know was that someone else had already made a copy of every file.

Every report.

Every photograph.

Every note.

Elena.

The night before, fearing the evidence might disappear, she had secretly scanned everything onto a flash drive.

And now that flash drive sat hidden inside her handbag.

Waiting.

Because deep down, Elena knew something.

Victoria wasn’t going to stop.

She wasn’t going to admit the truth.

And sooner or later, someone would have to expose her.

For Ethan.

For Adrian.

For everyone she had hurt.

But neither Elena nor Adrian realized that the greatest secret was still hidden.

A secret buried in hospital records years old.

A secret capable of destroying Victoria’s entire world.

Because according to a document the investigator had just uncovered…

Victoria Hawthorne might not be Ethan’s biological mother at all.
