Chapter 4 - The Sting Operation

At 3:50 PM, the atmosphere in Sarah Sterling’s downtown conference room was thick with anticipation.
Nora was safely tucked away in a secure adjacent room with Caleb, watching cartoons and eating ice cream, completely insulated from the impending chaos. I sat at the head of the massive glass table, staring blankly at the wall, performing the role of a shattered father.
At exactly 4:00 PM, the heavy mahogany doors swung open.
Vanessa walked in first, wearing a conservative, dark blue dress, her face arranged into a mask of solemn grief. She rushed to my side, wrapping her arms around my shoulders and pressing a kiss to my cheek.
“I’m so sorry, darling,” she whispered. “You’re making the bravest choice a father can make.”
I didn't hug her back. I simply nodded, staring at the table.
Colin Mercer entered right behind her, carrying a sleek leather briefcase. He looked immaculate in a tailored suit, his hair perfectly styled, exuding the quiet confidence of a man who believed he was about to walk away with seven million dollars.

Once you sign these, the trust will be restructured, the beach house will be liquidated, and the funds will be placed into a secure management account to cover Nora’s residential care indefinitely.”
