Chapter 4: The Severed Tie

Monday morning.

The corporate headquarters of Vanessa’s family empire was usually a place of absolute intimidation. But when Julian walked through the glass doors of the executive floor, he didn't look like a man whose wedding had just imploded.

He looked like a man who had finally woken up.

He bypassed the receptionist and walked straight into Richard's corner office. Vanessa was sitting on the leather sofa, her eyes hidden behind massive dark sunglasses.

"Julian," Richard said cautiously, standing up from his desk. "I assume you are here to discuss the untangling of our shared corporate assets."

"I am here to drop off the trash," Julian replied evenly.

He reached into his pocket, pulled out the three-carat, flawless diamond engagement ring, and tossed it onto the glass coffee table. It landed with a sharp, heavy clink.

Vanessa flinched. "Julian, please. We can hire a crisis management firm. We can spin the narrative. I can apologize to your mother—"

"You don't get to say my mother's name," Julian interrupted, his voice laced with a lethal, quiet authority that made Vanessa snap her mouth shut.

Julian turned his attention to Richard.

"As for our corporate assets," Julian stated smoothly, "there is nothing to untangle. I spent the weekend liquidating my minority stakes in your firm. I also bought out the primary debt on your upcoming commercial development project. I am officially your largest creditor."

Richard’s confident posture completely collapsed. "Julian... you wouldn't."

"If your daughter, or anyone from your PR team, ever mentions my mother in the press to save face," Julian warned, "I will call in the debt immediately. I will bankrupt you before the weekend."

He didn't wait for a handshake. He turned and walked out of the office, leaving the illusion of their superiority completely shattered in his wake.
