Chapter 15 - Two Predators, One ThroneWhen you return from the abyss, the world looks entirely different. The trivial concerns of society fade away, leaving only the raw, undeniable truth of who you are and what you have conquered.

Forty-eight hours after we fled the Bahamas, the global underworld was in absolute chaos. Alejandro Cardenas had been arrested by an international task force moments after our data dump hit Interpol’s servers. Stripped of his leverage and his money, the cartel bosses had immediately placed a multi-million-dollar bounty on his head. He wouldn't survive his first week in a federal holding cell.

The threat to Hart Hospitality was permanently eradicated. My European hotels were completely secure. The empire was untouchable.

It was a torrential, rain-swept Sunday night in Manhattan.

I stood in the expansive, glass-walled living room of my private penthouse overlooking the city. I was wearing a silk robe, holding a glass of scotch, watching the lightning arc across the bruised sky. The adrenaline that had sustained me for the past week had finally faded, leaving a quiet, heavy exhaustion in its wake.

The private elevator dinged softly.

Dominic walked into the penthouse. He bypassed my security without a word. He looked battered—a bruise darkening his jaw from the explosion, his usually immaculate hair messy and damp from the rain. He took off his suit jacket and tossed it over a leather chair.

He didn't speak. He walked slowly across the room, his gray eyes locked onto mine with a fierce, burning intensity that made the breath catch in my throat.

“The SEC finalized the injunctions,” Dominic said quietly, stopping inches away from me. “Cross Capital is fully liquidated. Cardenas is facing a lifetime in solitary confinement. The board of directors just unanimously voted to increase your executive compensation package by thirty percent.”

“I don't care about the board right now, Dominic,” I whispered, looking up into his eyes.

The space between us vanished. The professional distance, the corporate titles, the carefully constructed walls we had built to survive the war—it all shattered in a single, breathless second.

Dominic reached out, his strong hands tangling in my hair, tilting my head back. He didn't ask for permission. He didn't hesitate. He brought his mouth down on mine with a raw, consuming passion that sent a shockwave of pure electricity straight to my core.

I dropped my glass of scotch. It shattered on the hardwood floor, but neither of us cared. I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him flush against me, kissing him back with every ounce of the fierce, unyielding fire that burned inside my chest. It wasn't a gentle, polite kiss. It was the collision of two apex predators, a desperate, undeniable claiming of equals.

He backed me up against the floor-to-ceiling window, his body a solid, immovable shield against the storm raging outside.

“You are terrifying, Victoria,” Dominic breathed heavily against my lips, his hands gripping my waist with absolute, possessive devotion. “You walked into a cartel vault and brought the entire underworld to its knees. I have never met a woman like you.”

“You never will again,” I murmured, pulling his face back down to mine.

We spent the night wrapped in silk and shadows, completely shedding the armor we wore for the rest of the world. For the first time in my life, I wasn't waiting for a betrayal. I wasn't searching for a hidden agenda. Dominic didn't want to steal my crown; he wanted to stand beside me and defend it. He was a king perfectly content to serve a queen.

The next morning, the sun broke through the clouds, casting a brilliant, golden light over the Manhattan skyline.

I stood in front of the window, wearing Dominic’s oversized dress shirt, holding a fresh cup of coffee. I looked out at the sprawling, infinite matrix of power and wealth that lay at my feet.

Graham Whitlock had thought he was marrying a naive, pliable target. He thought he could use my life as a stepping stone for his dynasty. Richard Whitlock thought he could hide in the shadows. Nathaniel Cross thought he could bully me with cartel money.

They had all tried to bury me. They had all failed to realize that they were burying a seed.

I felt Dominic’s strong arms wrap around me from behind, pressing a soft kiss to the side of my neck.

I leaned back into his embrace, completely at peace. The terrified, naive girl who had signed a fake marriage certificate was dead. The ghosts were permanently locked in their cages.

I was Victoria Hart. I was the absolute, unquestioned architect of my own destiny. I was untouchable, unstoppable, and undeniably free.

And my reign, built on fire and forged in steel, was going to last forever.
